George Rex Meyer has been Inducted into the Marquis Who's Who Registry

    PENNANT HILLS, AUSTRALIA, August 21, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- George Rex Meyer has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Meyer is a retired educator and consultant with more than 40 years of advisory work in curriculum design and instruction, including trailblazing work on the development of field biology programs for schools. Prior to focusing his career on education, he studied life sciences, focusing on biology and zoology. A graduate of Sydney University, Dr. Meyer completed a Bachelor of Science in 1951 and undertook a teaching fellowship in zoology at the school the next year.

While continuing to teach at Sydney University, rising to become a senior lecturer of biology and zoology, Dr. Meyer continued his studies, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1954 and a Master of Education in 1955 before pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy as an international student in London in 1959. In 1967, he was named as the director of the Centre for Advancement of Teaching at Macquarie University, a post he held until 1978, when he stepped down to accept a fellowship in continuing education. Dr. Meyer would resume his studies once again, graduating with an additional Master of Arts from Sydney University in 1984, and a Master of Science in Cociety from the University of New South Wales.

In 1988, Dr. Meyer entered freelance educational consulting, building on a career that has included such prestigious posts as a United Nations educational consultancy in curriculum development, and service on the New South Wales state committee to supervise in-service training teachers and the New South Wales syllabus and examination committee in science for secondary schools. He maintained his consulting practice until 1997, whereupon he transitioned to concentrating on writing. Dr. Meyer has been extensively published in professional journals, and holds author credits on more than a dozen books about history, animal biology and educational strategies for science instruction, most recently "The Voyage of the Migrant Ship Palmyra 1838 London to Sydney," released in 2010, "Teaching Biology for Social Relevance," published in 1996 and "Bioethics in Education," edited in 1991.

In recognition of his groundbreaking work in curriculum development and pedagogy, Dr. Meyer was named as a member of the Order of Australia in 1981, and is a grantee of the Nuffield Foundation, the Carnegie Foundation and the government of Australia. He has held leadership roles in several notable professional organizations, serving as the founding president of the Association for Environmental Education, former vice chairperson of the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science and former vice president of the Sydney Science Film Society. Dr. Meyer was an active member of the International Union of Biological Sciences, where he sat on the education commission for more than a decade. In his retirement, he enjoys such diversions as listening to music and independent genealogical study, through which he has published twelve volumes of his own family history.
