PEMBROKE PINES, FL, August 26, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jim Lushine has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Upon graduating from high school in 1962, Mr. Lushine began a 42-year meteorological career with the National Weather Service that included both forecasting and research. In 1972 he was promoted to work at the National Hurricane Center in Miami, FL., a position he would hold until his retirement in 2005. Even though his career has been filled with highlights including the Bhola tropical cyclone, hurricane Andrew and a Mass Immigration Emergency, he is especially proud of becoming recognized as the "Father of Rip Current Forecasting" due to his landmark paper he authored involving rip current deaths and how they relate to specific weather and oceanographic conditions.

As an expert in his field, Mr. Lushine earned a Bachelor of Science in meteorology from The Pennsylvania State University. He subsequently completed graduate coursework from Florida State University and the University of Miami. He was a member of the American Meteorological Society, which bestowed upon him the Mitchell Award for his rip current study. He is considered an expert in lightning safety and weather satellite interpretation. He has also been recognized by the Department of Commerce with gold, silver and bronze medals as well as a lifetime achievement award from the Florida Beach Patrol Chiefs Association. Looking ahead he will continue his work in many avenues of research, including hurricane forecasting, (optional) and will pass along his knowledge to his granddaughter Allison Plumadore who recently graduated from Purdue University with a degree in meteorology.
