With more than 30 years of professional excellence to his credit, Dr. Bhuiyan has excelled as a professor of physics at the University of Puerto Rico since 1991, after previously serving with the aforementioned academic institution as an associate professor from 1986 to 1991, an assistant professor from 1983 to 1986 and a postdoctoral research worker from 1981 to 1982. He was appointed as a post-doctoral research associate at the Wayne State University in Detroit in 1982. Earlier he had refined his skills as an independent research worker and a post-doctoral research assistant at the University of Sheffield in England from 1978 to 1980 and a post-doctoral research associate at the University of Manchester in England from 1977 to 1978. Dr. Bhuiyan began his career at the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh, from which he obtained a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in 1972 and a Master of Science in 1974.
Dr. Bhuiyan continued his academic efforts at the Imperial College London, previously a constituent college of the University of London, earning both a Doctor of Philosophy and a Diploma of Imperial College in 1977. In order to remain aware of changes in a field that is always moving forward, he maintains his involvement as a fellow of the Bangladesh Physical Society, and as members of the American Chemical Society and the American Physical Society. Additionally, Dr. Bhuiyan has to date authored over 140 articles published in professional, peer-reviewed journals.
Throughout his impressive career, Dr. Bhuiyan received recognition for his contributions to his field. The recipient of numerous research grants from the National Science Foundation, he was presented with the Academy Excellence and the Productivity Award from the University of Puerto Rico in 1998. In light of all his accomplishments, Dr. Bhuiyan was previously highlighted in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the World.
