Clayton E. Ray Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Mr. Ray has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in science

FALMOUTH, VA, September 03, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Clayton E. Ray with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Ray celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

From a young age, Dr. Ray enjoyed exploring nature. While visiting his grandparents' farm, he often walked streams, discovered various fossils and studied nearby animals. Attending the largest high school in the state, where he graduated at the top of his class of more than 700 students, which contained over 75 acres of preserved land, Dr. Ray drew a great deal of influence from his various science teachers, particularly in the field of physiography and geology.

Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, Dr. Ray attended Harvard College, from which he attained a Bachelor of Arts, graduating magna cum maude, and Phi Beta Kappa, Senior Sixteen. Continuing his studies at the prestigious Harvard University, he further received a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy on scholarship. Throughout this time, Dr. Ray was grateful to have professors who were renowned leaders in science, history and vertebrae paleontology, and was most inspired by Professor Alfred Sherwood Romer, a specialist in vertebrate evolution.

Dr. Ray began his career as an assistant professor at the University of Florida, after which he became an assistant curator of the Smithsonian Institution and the National Museum of Natural History, where he served out the remainder of his vocation as a curator emeritus. In addition to these roles, Dr. Ray also chaired the committee of scientific advisors of the U.S. Marine Mammal Commission, and he served on the board of trustees of the Virginia Museum of Natural History. He maintains his professional affiliation with the American Society of Mammalogists, and the North Carolina Fossil Club. In his spare time outside of work, he enjoys studying and collecting antique hand tools, the study of dictionaries and researching the history of horse drawn farming.
