Supported by more than five decades of professional experience, Ms. Wightman has been designated as the Historian of the Town of Avoca, a village located in upstate New York since 2010. Ms. Wightman began her career as Secretary starting in 1965, was Town Clerk in 1970 and 1971, then found success at the Avoca Insurance Agency, retiring in 1992. In 1993 she became self-employed in a craft business until 2005.

In a career suffused with highlights, Ms. Wightman is most proud to have had the opportunity to write three books with valuable information that are accessible for readers to navigate. With a plethora of knowledge at her disposal, she authored "Avoca -The Early Years" and "Avoca-Beyond the Early Years". Notably, Ms. Wightman was bestowed with an award from the Avoca Historical Society Board and is also Curator at the museum.

Passionate in her efforts to help others learn, Ms. Wightman attributes her career success to her fascination with learning about and collecting facts about the history of her hometown. She married her husband in 1965, and he passed away in 2014. She has two children, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. As she looks toward the future, Ms. Wightman intends to continue serving as Avoca's Town Historian and to record information for future generations.
