Dr. Giesler has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the field of nuclear chemistry

LOS ALAMOS, NM, September 04, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Gregg Carl Giesler, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Giesler celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Accumulating more than 35 years of professional excellence in the field of nuclear chemistry, Dr. Giesler, a nuclear chemist and computer systems consultant, retired in 2002 from the Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, New Mexico. A technical staff member at the lab, he was an expert in radioactive decay who extensively studied the ways in which to determine the present properties and quantities of isotopes.

Dr. Giesler was initially hired by Los Alamos, a U.S. Department of Energy national laboratory, as a staff member in 1972, shortly after acquiring his doctorate degree. He later worked for Jomar Systems in Los Alamos as a computer systems engineer and then as a consultant for various organizations throughout New Mexico, including Salem Technical Services in Albuquerque. Ultimately, he returned to the Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1999, where he remained until retirement. Additionally, Dr. Giesler spent eight years as an invited professor at the University of New Mexico from 2001 to 2008.

As a community leader, Dr. Giesler guided the Cub Scouts of America in Los Alamos as a member of the committee for Pack 229. He later became involved with the local Boy Scouts of America as committee chairman for Troop 329.

Born in Chicago, Dr. Giesler was first introduced to the field of chemistry in the eighth grade when he read an article about transuranic elements by Nobel Prize winner Dr. Glenn Seaborg. Intrigued by the field ever since, he began studying nuclear chemistry and as a freshman in high school wrote a research paper on the process of the transuranic elements. Dr. Giesler went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in chemistry at the University of Illinois in 1966, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in chemical physics at Michigan State University in 1971. Years later, he acquired a Master of Science in nuclear engineering and radiation protection engineering at the University of New Mexico in 2000. He further holds a certificate in waste management and environmental management.

Dr. Giesler has been actively engaged with various professional organizations relative to his field. He was a member of the American Physical Society, is a member and former local treasurer of the American Chemical Society, and member, former special interest committee member and longtime local users' group chair of the Digital Equipment Computer Users' Society since 1979. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been included in the 22nd edition of Who's Who in the West.
