Dr. Lim is an esteemed materials scientist celebrating nearly 15 years of groundbreaking research in optoelectronics and advanced organic materials for use in nanotechnology, biotechnology, and renewable energy applications. He initially pursued an education at Seoul National University, earning a Bachelor of Engineering and completing doctoral coursework in 2005. After studying abroad temporarily at Kyushu University under the guidance of Dr. Masahiro Irie, Dr. Lim returned to Seoul National University, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in materials science and engineering in 2008, presenting his thesis on the photoswitching properties of fluorescent photochromic molecules, under the supervision of Dr. Soo Young Park.
The same year, Dr. Lim conducted a postdoctoral fellowship at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia, where he contributed to the design and synthesis of copolymer nanoparticles for light-activated therapeutics, under the supervision of Dr. Neil R. Branda. He accepted his current role as a principal researcher in the organic materials laboratory of the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology after his fellowship concluded in 2010. His work with Samsung focuses on electrochromic display devices and the development of organic semiconductors for utilization in organic CMOS image sensors. Since 2016, Dr. Lim had also been active as a member of the research staff in the department of chemistry at the University of British Columbia, working on the fabrication of metal oxide thin films and the synthesis of potential organic component compounds.
Dr. Lim holds more than 45 international patents for his work, and has been published extensively in more than 20 peer-reviewed journals including Angew. Chem., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Macromolecules, J. Mater. Chem. C and Nature Research journal. In support of his research innovation, he has been the recipient of numerous scholarships and academic awards, and grants from the Ministry of Science and ICT of Korea, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of Korea and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. In the coming years, Dr. Lim looks forward to continuing to build upon his existing research to identify new opportunities for emerging optoelectronic and energy technologies in order to improve lives.
