Dr. Linwood B. Whitten has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

Dr. Whitten presently channels his expertise into his current position as the dean of diversity and international affairs at Alabama State University, where he also serves as the Title IX coordinator.

    MONTGOMERY, AL, September 19, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Linwood B. Whitten has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Whitten began his vocational journey as an undergraduate student at Alabama A&M University, where he felt that he had a responsibility to serve both his peers and the wider public. He served as a student ambassador, which provided access to many different areas of the university and academic operations, and was able to learn firsthand about recruitment practices, college tours, orientations and student engagement. Dr. Whitten received a Bachelor of Science, with honors, from Alabama A&M University, a Master of Science from Arkansas State University, and went on to pursue a Doctor of Chiropractic at Life University, having discovered his passion for the human body and health care. After graduating from college, he secured an initial position in academic admissions. Throughout his career, he has earned distinction as an adjunct instructor, and in several student affairs positions focused on visa and immigration compliance, international education, diversity and inclusion, resident life, student development and emergency preparedness, among other subjects.

Dr. Whitten presently channels his expertise into his current position as the dean of diversity and international affairs at Alabama State University, where he also serves as the Title IX coordinator. He was also recently appointed as the interim assistant vice president of student affairs at Alabama State University. In addition to his primary roles, he also acts as the National Student Exchange (NSE) coordinator and acting advisor for four on-campus student organizations. Overall, Dr. Whitten is responsible for implementing diversity and inclusion initiatives on the Alabama State University campus in order to ensure equity and access for underrepresented communities.

As a task force member for minority serving institutions with the Diversity Abroad Network in Global Education, Dr. Whitten has notably managed to bring promising events to his campus. Most recently, he was responsible for the second ever EducationUSA seminar on recruiting and housing international students, making Alabama State University the first historically black college (HBCU) to host such an event. Dr. Whitten also furthered his volunteer efforts as an HBCU representative for Region VII of NAFSA, a board member of the Alabama Coalition Against Rape, an ambassador for Alabama Goodwill and a board member of the Alabama State Friends of the Theater. He also contributes to the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind, and on the education steering committee for The World Games (2022).

As a respected voice in his field, Dr. Whitten was recognized for his life's work and dedication to diversity with the Outstanding Contribution to Student Engagement Award from the Alabama chapter of NASPA. He also received the SAEOPP Trio Achievers Award and was named inaugural class of 40 under 40 at Alabama A&M University in a 40 Under 40 list. In the coming years, Dr. Whitten aspires to secure a position at a larger institution. He would also like to build and lead his own team, as well as spearhead a progression and innovative division in academia.
