Colonel Thomas A. Boland Sr. Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Military Service

Colonel Boland contributed more than 30 years of expertise to the United States military



    BRUNSWICK, GA, September 23, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Colonel Thomas A. Boland Sr. has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. With more than three decades of military experience to his credit, Colonel Boland served in the United States military until reaching the rank of colonel upon his retirement. One of the oldest soldiers to graduate from Airborne School at nearly 57 years old, he previously found success as a legal prosecutor for the South Carolina Department of Social Services.
Notably, Colonel Boland also completed humanitarian missions while serving overseas in the United States Army, including in Operation Shoebox in Bosnia, Operation Toothbrush in Honduras, and Operation Stove and Refrigerator for the School for the Deaf in Grenada. He previously served in the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam before transferring to the United States Army Reserves, where he participated in military operations, such as: Urgent Fury in Grenada, Desert Shield/Storm, Uphold Democracy in Haiti and Joint Endeavor in Bosnia, where he served as the Senior American Representative to the British Army.

Colonel Boland received a B.A. and M.A. Degree from California State University, Sacramento and a Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree from the School of Law of the University of South Carolina in 1978. To remain abreast of developments in his field, he maintained professional affiliation with a number of organizations, including the South Carolina Bar Association, the Orangeburg County Bar Association, the Penal Modernization Committee, the Public Defenders Association of South Carolina, the South Carolina Association of County Attorneys and the Horry County Bar Association.

Honored for his military contributions, Colonel Boland was awarded 30 decorations, including the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal. He also earned the Joint Services Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, the Humanitarian Service Medal and the Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon, among numerous other accolades.

The recipient of the Expeditionary Medal, the Armed Forces Service Medal, the Vietnam Presidential Unit Citation, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and the Parachutist Badge. Colonel Boland was named Poet oft he Year by the State of South Carolina. Most impressively, he authored a self-published autobiography, titled "Private Funny Man or I Always Wanted to be a Hero," in 2016.
