Driven to serve his country, Mr. Allen joined the United States Army in 1986, serving as an Infantryman in the 82nd Airborne Division, 101st Airborne Division, and many other units. Over the course of 25 years, he gained considerable expertise in leadership, program development and operations in crisis situations. A proven leader, he served as a combat advisor with the U.S. Army in 2011 before retiring as lieutenant colonel in 2013. From there, he worked as a Commonwealth Disaster Recovery Coordinator for the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, where he coordinated and synchronized disaster recovery operations across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Today, Mr. Allen excels as the Emergency Preparedness Manager for Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, where he began in 2018. In this capacity, he develops and implements strategies for unstable environments and leads organizations to improve regarding their mission and organizational effectiveness. Throughout his career, he has remained abreast of changes in the field through his alignments with the Pennsylvania Recovery Resources Team, the Keystone Emergency Managers Association and the International Association of Emergency Managers.
While in the military, Mr. Allen pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor of Arts in international politics from The Pennsylvania State University in 1993 and a Master of Science in administration from Central Michigan University in 2006.
In light of his professional accomplishments, Mr. Allen became a distinguished military graduate of the Penn State University's Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) in 1993. He attributes his profound success to his upbringing, particularly his father, who taught Mr. Allen never to give up in the face of failure. In the coming years, Mr. Allen intends to continue working in government in an effort to make a resounding impact on other individuals' lives.
