WASHINGTON, DC, September 29, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Stephen J. Paddack, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Paddack celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Paddack, a successful and known aeronautical and aerospace engineer and educator, retired in 2011 after more than five decades in his field. While active in his field, he taught courses in astrodynamics, spacecraft design, rocketry and aerospace at the U.S. Naval Academy as a visiting professor and professor from 1995 to 2006 and served as the space chairperson in the aerospace engineering department. Dr. Paddack was also a tenured employee of NASA in the Goddard Space Flight Center as an aerospace engineer and the chief of the advanced missions' analysis office between 1961 and 1995. Among Dr. Paddack's many achievements, he has drawn the most recognition for the scientific effect called YORP, where thermal inertia and optical forces can influence an asteroid's movement. An acronym for Yarkovsky, O'Keefe, Radzievskii and Paddack, the concept was notably expounded upon in an article in the New York Times in March 2007, has been cited in numerous scientific publications and journals, and has been a topic at several scientific colloquiums. Drawing even further attention, an asteroid has since been named YORP, with another asteroid named Paddack in honor of Dr. Paddack's contributions.

Dr. Paddack served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1953 to 1955. He later pursued an education at the Catholic University of America, attaining a Bachelor and Master of Science in aeronautical engineering in 1959 and 1964, respectively, and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1973. He also completed postgraduate coursework at the University of Washington, Seattle University, the University of California at Los Angeles, the Catholic University of America and Georgetown University between 1959 and 1965.
