Sylvia Lindinger-Sternart, PhD, has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

Dr. Lindinger-Sternart celebrates professional excellence in the field of counseling



    GREAT FALLS, MT, October 07, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sylvia Lindinger-Sternart, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Hailing from Austria, Dr. Lindinger-Sternart holds a degree in mechanical engineering and worked as a technical engineer and lead project manager at VA Tech Elin EBG from 1997 until 2004. Greatly impacted by some of her colleagues' long-term battles with mental health and the loss of one to suicide, she notably felt a calling to the field of mental health. Dr. Lindinger-Sternart completed a Bachelor of Science in psychology at the University of Salzburg in 2003, and pursued two postgraduate semesters of international study at Bowling Green State University.

Dr. Lindinger-Sternart returned to the University of Salzburg, where she earned a Master of Science in clinical psychology in 2007, publishing her thesis on reflection, memory and quality of life in the elderly in Adultspan Journal. She obtained a Master of Arts in counseling from Bowling Green State University in 2011, and concluded her studies at the University of Toledo in 2014, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in counseling education and supervision. By the time she completed her doctoral studies, Dr. Lindinger-Sternart's work on distance counseling and the impact of cultural background on treatment-seeking behaviors had been published in such journals as the International Journal of Social Science Studies, laying the framework for her current research interest in trauma, mindfulness therapy, suicide prevention and online counseling for diverse populations.

Dr. Lindinger-Sternart was an instructor of record at the University of Toledo from 2011 until 2014, when she became an assistant professor at Pennsylvania State University. She was extremely active in Pennsylvania State University academic and administrative life, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, serving as a graduate research symposium judge and facilitating student discussions and faculty commissions on social justice, racism, racial and ethnic diversity and equity. Since 2015, Dr. Lindinger-Sternart has excelled in numerous positions at the University of Providence, beginning as an assistant professor of psychology and counseling, after which she rose to become a program director in 2016 and an associate professor in 2020.

As a leading voice in her field, Dr. Lindinger-Sternart has been invited to present on various subjects to mental health professionals around the world, delivering keynote speeches and presentations at conferences, symposia and clinician training workshops. She has spoken at events including the Eighth EAI International Conference on e-Infrastructure and e-Services for Developing Countries in Burkina Faso, the 2014 American Counseling Association Conference in Honolulu and the 2012 American Counseling Association Conference in New Orleans. Moreover, Dr. Lindinger-Sternart regularly leads workshops on topics in community behavioral healthcare for professionals throughout Montana.

In addition to her academic and research work, Dr. Lindinger-Sternart maintains an active clinical practice with an emphasis on trauma work and enhancing resilience with Native American populations living in underserved reservation areas. Since 2019, she has provided services through Heart Butte High School and an ongoing summer high school-based treatment program, and she has served as a provider for community mental health organizations throughout Montana for much of her career. Her clinical experience includes internships in the United States, Germany and Austria, with extensive training in crisis management, psychological and neuropsychological testing and evaluation, and the management of complex dual diagnoses in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Dr. Lindinger-Sternart is a trained trauma-informed practitioner, and is certified in EMDR treatment techniques.

Beyond her primary endeavors, Dr. Lindinger-Sternart serves as the president of the Great Falls Counseling Association, and maintains involvement with the American Counseling Association, the County for International Relationships and the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development. She has contributed numerous articles to professional journals, and several chapters to books. In recognition of her exceptional undertakings in higher education and counseling, she was presented with an Excellent Assistance of International Students Award from Bowling Green State University in 2009, and the Fritz-Freyschlag Grand Prize for Outstanding Service to Solidarity and Social Partnership in 2010. Outside of her vocational circles, Dr. Lindinger-Sternart is an accomplished painter and a two-time winner of the Linz International Creative Competition. She has a passion for nature and the connection between natural environments and healthy human beings.
