With more than 43 years of expertise as a civil structure designer (ret.), Mr. East initially garnered inspiration for his future in this field by assisting his father with building projects in high school. Having been heavily influenced by his firsthand experience with labor as well as witnessing the craftsmanship of the Johnson Space Center, he resolved to pursue a similar career in engineering as a civil structure designer. After high school, he studied drafting as his major at The University of Houston. Throughout his tenure, Mr. East worked for reputable firms such as Brown & Root, McDermott Engineering Limited, Stone & Webster Incorporated and Jacobs Engineering Group Incorporated, retiring from Wood Engineering, to name a few.
Although retired from engineering, Mr. East likewise retains a decorated resume in other professional capacities. His love of the spoken and written word was inspired by his involvement in church, high school, radio broadcast and theatrical training. It was on the debate team in high school he found his passion and confidence in speaking. Since 1977, he continues his efforts as a minister and motivational speaker for religious and secular audiences alike. Additionally, he serves as the proprietor and primary contributor to the popular "Night Journals Podcast," an episodic memoir which poses questions concerning interpersonal relationships, materialism, and spirituality, among other topics. Most notably, Mr. East excels as a published poet, an author of children's literature, publishing such works as "Maasai Man" and "I Swam with an Angel."
Mr. East completed coursework at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and previously with the Institute of Children's Literature. Furthermore, he has been honored with a White House "Thank You" Letter, an AVB Global Award and a Certificate of Recognition from the Chevron Corporation among numerous awards during his career in engineering. Likewise, he maintains his civic responsibilities with the School of St. Jude in Arusha, Tanzania. Mr. East plans to publish his next book, titled "Awaken by the Ants: An African Story," in the near future.
