Having accrued 35 years of inimitable experience in the field of civil and electrical engineering, Mr. Hunter has garnered a laudable reputation with Sev1Tech, LLC supporting the U.S. Coast Guard Civil Engineering Unit (CEU)-Juneau since 2017. The CEU-J notably provides various engineering services such as planning, design, drafting, contracting, and maintenance and repair to Coast Guard shore facilities throughout Alaska. An effective administrator, Mr. Hunter specializes in construction management in engineering.
Enlisting in the U.S. Army Reserves in 1984, Mr. Hunter served in active duty to Iraq in 2003 and between 2005 and 2006 before retiring in 2010. During his military career, he also contributed for six months in Central America after Hurricane Mitch, engaging in reconstruction efforts in 1999. Some of Mr. Hunter's noteworthy roles have included positions at the Tooele Army Depot between 1985 and 1991 as a design civil engineer, site engineer, facilities, and planning engineer. He subsequently worked for an additional 24 years with the U.S. Army Construction Engineering Research Laboratory in Champaign, Illinois, as a research civil/electrical engineer doing research on maintenance and repair procedures and planning for the public works departments on military installations.
In a career suffused with highlights, Mr. Hunter is particularly proud to have assisted in devising proper mothball procedures for U.S. Army facilities, as well as infrastructure condition and functional assessment and cost estimating procedures for evaluating maintenance and repair plans and capital improvement plans. He was also responsible for developing maintenance and repair activities for the U.S. Coast Guard facilities in Alaska regarding seismic loadings, tsunami, high wind, permafrost, and other conditions. To support his professional efforts, Mr. Hunter is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Inspired by his father, who served in the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Hunter was the first in his family to attend college. Focused on science and mathematics, he began working in construction on pre-engineered buildings after high school. After acquiring an associate's degree in engineering, mathematics and sciences at Ricks College (now Brigham Young University--Idaho) in 1981, Mr. Hunter attained a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Brigham Young University in 1985. While working toward his degrees, he contributed for two years studying abroad in Ecuador.
