Keoni May Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Law Enforcement

Mr. May has dedicated his attention to the Royal Order of Kamehameha since his retirement



    HONOLULU, HI, October 13, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Keoni May has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Keoni May was born to a Hawaiian Hula Dancer, who performed at the New York City, Lexington Hotel, Hawaiian Room. He was literally raised in the dressing room of the hula dancers, as a baby and toddler.

Mr. May graduated from Roosevelt High School (Honolulu), earned an Associate of Arts from Kapi'olani Community College (Honolulu), a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (Honolulu) and also completed 2 1/2 years of coursework at the University of Hawaiʻi School of Law (Honolulu). He holds certificates from John Jay College, LSU, W.C.C., Taylor Business Institute, and misc.

He was a drummer who played in the elementary school band & orchestra, junior high school band & orchestra, high school band & stage band, and he became a Hawaii Union Musician. In 1968, in New York, he won the Battle of the Drummers Contest.

After graduating from high school, he was Drafted (#55), and subsequently joined the U.S. Army. He attended the Airborne School (0579) and the Special Forces School (7747). After serving his country during the Vietnam War - MACV and Southeast Asia - JUSMAG/MACTHAI (for 2 years), Mr. May returned to the United States, and began a decades-long career in law enforcement and public service.

He had a law enforcement career as a Hawaii State Prison Guard, Hawaii Commission on Crime Police Investigator, a New York City Probation Officer (Peace Officer), a Westchester County Probation Officer (Armed Peace Officer with Full Police Powers), and Undercover Police Officer. In addition, he was a certified NYS - DCJS police instructor, a certified NYS - DCJS Defensive Tactics Instructor, and a certified FBI Defensive Tactics Instructor.

Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Mr. May received a plethora of certifications from the FBI, DEA, ICE, NYSP, NYPD, WCPD, FLETC, Homeland Security, the Westchester County Detectives Association, the American Probation & Parole Association, the NYS Probation Officers Association, to name a few. He was once an active member of the International Narcotics Enforcement Officers Association, and is a current member of the Fraternal Order of Police (Lodge #188).

He taught at the Westchester County Community College for 13 years, as an Adjunct Instructor teaching Basic & Background Investigations.

He was New York 'volunteer' as a NYS Emergency Medical Technician, W.C. Search & Rescue Responder, and a Hartsdale FireFighter. He was a 9-11-2001, WTC, Search & Rescue Responder.

During his retirement, he participated as an 'Extra' in several movies & television shows, to include "Godzilla," "Hawaii 5-0," Magnum PI," "King Kong," "Aloha" etc…

Mr. May has retained his life membership with several military organizations throughout his career; the Special Forces Association (Chapter 8 & Chapter 66), the 75th Ranger Regiment Association (at-large), the 101st Airborne Division Association (at-large), the Veterans of Foreign Wars (HI), the American Legion (HI), and the Disabled American Veterans (HI).

His active civic duties now involves assisting the Hawaiian Kingdom, as a member of the Royal Order of Kamehameha 1 (Mamo Hawaii - Kaukau Ali'i - Kuauhau), the Hawaiian Royal Society Ka Hale 'O Na Ali'i (Mamo Ali'i), the Queen Emma Hawaiian Civic Club, and the Ka Lei Maile Ali'i Club.

He is an Ordained Deacon for the Kawaiaha'o Hawaiian Church.

In light of his vast breadth of expertise, he co-wrote a book with Fred Zabitosky (MOH), Prisoners of War & Missing in Action in Southeast Asia.
