ERIE, PA, October 19, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- James R. Halladay has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

During the mid-1970s, Mr. Halladay began in the field of engineering with the Parker Hannifin Corporation. Although originally hired as a management trainee, he became a rubber formulator and chemist at the behest of technical director Presley Arnovitz. Supported by these experiences, Mr. Halladay began in a similar position with the Masco Corporation in 1979, where he remained for two years before joining the LORD Corporation as a manager of material and process engineering.

Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Halladay gained valuable expertise with the LORD Corporation as a senior staff engineer for the Mechanical Products Division, where he also distinguished himself as a senior fellow. During this time, he earned the patent assigned to LORD Corporation for rotary wing aircraft bearing for rotary wing aircraft motions. After retiring in 2018, he began a successful career as a consultant, specializing in rubber formulation for the aerospace industry. Since 1990, Mr. Halladay has also excelled as a French horn player for the Northwest Pennsylvania Concert band.

While reflecting back on his career, Mr. Halladay notes two standout moments, during which he helped introduce rubber to Boeing engine mounts, which previously used metal mesh because no one believed rubber could stand up to those applications. Secondly, he saved the V-22 Osprey program when Bell and Boeing were ready to terminate the project, as no one was able to make a part that would last, needing a minimum of 750 hours to make the program viable. At Mr. Hallday's suggestion, they changed the part to the rubber he formulated, which lasted 1,500 hours.

Before embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Halladay earned a Bachelor of Science in physics from the University of Kentucky. Though retired, he remains aware of ongoing industry changes through his affiliations with the American Chemical Society. Throughout his career, Mr. Halladay has received 19 patents, including for an oil-resistant elastomeric coating and a high damped organic rubber composition. He also developed the high temperature elastomer with a novel cure system, which led to the first use of rubber in the engine mounts of the Boeing 737 and 757 engines.

With a plethora of knowledge at his disposal, Mr. Halladay has authored and co-authored a myriad of articles, which have appeared in such publications as Rubber Chemistry and Technology and Rubber & Plastic News, as well as at the 163rd Technical Meeting of the rubber division at the American Chemical Society. He also wrote "Bonding of Elastomers, a Practical Guide" alongside R.J. DelVecchio. In light of his outstanding work in the field, Mr. Halladay received the Don Alstadt Innovation Award in 2017.
