LITCHFIELD, MN, October 23, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Steven Vernon Besser has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Besser celebrates more than three decades of diverse legal practice, including personal injury and liability cases and insurance litigation, business matters and estate planning. He took a nontraditional path toward the law; beginning his undergraduate studies at Southwest State University majoring in biology, then switching to political science at the beginning of his second year. Following the second quarter of his second year, world events led him to leave college to "find himself." After 8 months laboring in a cabinet shop and then service station, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving as a counter-intelligence coordinator. Following his honorable discharge in 1976, Mr. Besser returned to Minnesota and later that year enrolled at Bemidji State University where he completed a Bachelor of Arts Cum Laude in Biology. He then began graduate level studies at North Dakota State University where his research focused on water quality/chemistry and nutrient cycling in a river/reservoir system.

Following two years of graduate study, Mr. Besser's ambitions began to shift, and he debated pursuing a career in either medicine or law, applying to the University of North Dakota School of Law on the advice of a friend. He was awarded his Doctor of Jurisprudence, with Distinction, in 1989, and was admitted to practice law before the before the Supreme Courts of Minnesota and North Dakota as well as the Federal District Courts in each state.

During law school he clerked with the Law Offices of Robert J. LaBine & Associates. Following his admission to the Bar, Mr. Besser became an associate of Falsani, Balmer, Berglund & Merritt, where he began his practice in liability and worker's compensation claims. From 1990 to 1997, he was an associate of Hutchinson & Marquard and then Marquard & Associates, becoming a leading voice in Minnesota's worker's compensation attorney community and contributing to The Beacon, the Minnesota Association for Injured Workers' newsletter. Mr. Besser has been a member of Dolan and Besser since 1997, broadening his practice to include specialties such as estate planning, probate and business law.

Mr. Besser was inducted to the Order of Barristers as a law student, and has maintained professional affiliation with the both the Minnesota and North Dakota State Bar Associations, the Minnesota Association for Justice and the Twelfth District Bar Association of the Minnesota Bar, where he served as president from 2014 to 2015. He is active in the Minnesota State Bar Association, where he has held numerous leadership roles in the Insurance for Members, Judiciary and Judicial Elections Committees, as well as serving on the Fair Response Committee.

Mr. Besser's passion for water and science remains in the form of outspoken environmental advocacy; he is a citizen member of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Esocid Fish Working Group, the Mille Lacs Fisheries Advisory Committee, and was appointed by Governor Mark Dayton to serve as the statewide fishing organization representative to the Minnesota Clean Water Council. In addition to his environmental advocacy, Mr. Besser has been a leader in the Immanuel Lutheran Church, a member of the Board of Directors of the Meeker County Memorial Hospital and member of the Minnesota Citizens Commission for the Preservation of an Impartial Judiciary. In the coming years, Mr. Besser looks forward to reducing his legal case load and remaining with Dolan and Besser as of counsel, and hopes to devote more time to policy and advocacy work in the areas of ecological preservation and climate change.
