David B. Weyant Recognized for Excellence in Health Physics and Engineering

Mr. Weyant hopes to cement his legacy that will make his family proud



    HAMPTON, VA, October 26, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- David B. Weyant has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Growing up in Western Pennsylvania near Shippingport Nuclear Power Stations, Mr. Weyant was inspired to pursue a career in nuclear engineering. He attended two years at Penn State University, Beaver Campus as an undergraduate engineering student. Soon thereafter, he enlisted into the Naval Nuclear Power Program as a nuclear electronics technician/reactor operator. While aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt CVN-71 (nuclear aircraft carrier) he served time during the Cold War, Operation Desert Shield, Desert Storm and Provide Comfort. Before leaving active service into the Navy Reserves, he completed an Associates in Arts & Science in Nuclear Engineering Technology from Thomas Edison State University. He additionally earned while onboard USS Theodore Roosevelt the Southwest Asia Service Medal (two bronze stars), Joint Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait & Saudi Arabia), and N/MC Achievement Medal (2).

Over the years during his Navy Reserve enlistment, Mr. Weyant worked at various nuclear power plants during outages (Health Physics Technician) and multiple environmental engineering companies (radiological remediation oversite and decommissioning). During the Great Japan 2011 Earthquake, he volunteered to support 'Operation Tomodachi' as a first responder and as a radiological advisor to Pacific Fleet from USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19) and Yokosuka, Japan, where he earned a Commendation Medal and Humanitarian Service Medal. During his time in Japan he completed Bachelor of Science in Mathematics through Excelsior College of New York. Also, during his reserve service he supported operations for Kosovo and Post 911 from Italy, where he earned Global War on Terrorism Medal. For reserves, he served as a Senior Enlistment Leader in Bronx, NY for SURGEMAIN Unit in support of naval nuclear submarine maintenance.

After overseas support from Japan, Mr. Weyant accepted a position as a civil service worker with the US Navy, Yorktown, VA as a Health Physicist. Since then he has completed his Masters of Science in Environmental Engineering at Old Dominion University, VA and certified as a National Registry of Radiation Technologist. His duties with civil service also include as an instructor and Environmental Protection Manager. Upon retiring from the U.S. Navy in 2016, Mr. Weyant had completed 30 years of service (active & reserves). He has attributed his professional success to his focus, determination and sacrifices. Looking towards the future, Mr. Weyant plans to wrap up a few loose ends in completing his undergraduate nuclear engineering technology and civil/ environmental engineering degree and becoming a CHP and PE. He also plans to retire from civil service and complete his career in the private sector as a Radiation/Environmental Engineering Consultant.
