Mary Roades de Meneses, EdD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    ALTON, IL, October 27, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Mary Roades de Meneses, EdD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. de Meneses celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Leveraging nearly a decade of expertise in the field as a nurse, Dr. de Meneses transitioned toward education in 1969 as an instructor of medical surgical nursing at the Michael Reese Medical Center in Chicago. She later secured teaching positions at DePaul University in Chicago in the school of nursing and began a tenured faculty appointment at Southern Illinois University in 1982. Highly successful over the next two decades, Dr. de Meneses became a full professor and contributed her talents as a coordinator of graduate programs and as an associate dean for educational services. She retired in 2002.

Since embarking upon her career in 1960, Dr. de Meneses gained expertise as an emergency room nurse, intensive care nurse and medical surgical nurse at several different hospitals throughout the country. She also had the opportunity to serve as an evening nursing supervisor while employed at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Alton, Illinois. Dr. de Meneses also tutored on behalf of the Illinois League of Nursing and lectured for the Illinois Trauma Nurses Association. Additionally, she consulted for many years on behalf of local and regional law firms between 1983 and 2002.

Dr. de Meneses is a visionary and leader behind numerous community and educational initiatives. In 1977, she became active with the Hospital Systems Agency in DuPage County, Illinois, and served on the advisory board of NBC-TV Health Fair '80 from 1979 to 1981. Dr. de Meneses has remained active as a member of the East Saint Louis Housing Authority Consortium's community education program and taskforce since 1993.

A prolific writer, Dr. de Meneses was the co-author of "Nursing Process: Theory, Application and Related Processes" in 1986 with N. Pinnell. She was also a guest reviewer for several textbooks for Prentice-Hall, Brady Book Company and other publishing companies. Likewise, she served on review panels and editorial boards for scholarly publications and contributed chapters to approximately 20 books and numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. de Meneses has remained active as an item writer for the C.V. Mosby Company since 1986.

Dr. de Meneses has supported her career through membership with several prominent professional organizations. Among them, she was active on the obstetrical task force for the Southern Illinois University Medical Association, and served as the chapter treasurer, a board director and member of multiple committees for the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. Likewise, she was the chairperson of the research committee of the MidAmerica Regional Nursing Diagnosis Special Interest Group. Other memberships to Dr. de Meneses' credit include the Midwest Nursing Research Society, the Oncology Nursing Society and the Illinois Nurses Association.

An alumnus of DePaul University, Dr. de Meneses received a Bachelor of Science in nursing in 1970, a Master of Arts in education in 1973, and a Master of Science in nursing in 1975. Continuing her education, she later earned a Doctor of Education at Northern Illinois University in 1982. Eminently qualified in her field, she is a registered nurse in the state of Missouri. A Danforth scholar through the Danforth Foundation between 1957 and 1960, Dr. de Meneses later secured several grants in her field from the Department of Health and Human Services, Higher Education Collegiate Association and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
