ATHENS, OH, October 27, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Lois Deimel Whealey with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Whealey celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Making an indelible impact throughout her career as an educator, administrator and activist, Ms. Whealey's career initially took shape as a public school teacher working throughout Nevada, Kentucky and Michigan, as well as overseas, as an adult basic education teacher for the U.S. Air Force in Oxford, England. She subsequently transitioned to higher education as a part-time instructor and an administrative assistant at the Ohio University in Athens. Ms. Whealey ultimately developed a new passion in her hometown of Athens as a citizen's activist, which was partly inspired by her mother, who served in the Nevada legislature and was active in politics.

Highly regarded for her devotion to society, Ms. Whealey was instrumental in numerous initiatives with respect to education, charity work and activism. Over the past four and a half decades, she contributed to the efforts of multiple organizations, including as the vice president of the Girl Scouts of Black Diamond, the former vice president and president of the Athens City School District Board of Education, the former secretary of the Ohio Environmental Council, a former member of the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission's advisory committee, and, among countless other roles, a board director of the Unitarian Universalist Service committee. Presently, Ms. Whealey has been aligned as a board director and secretary of the Ohio Women Inc. since 1995. Additionally, she hosted a local television program, "Women Today and Yesterday," which was featured on Athens Community Television Inc., from 2006 to 2019. (The local ALT station has closed.).

Ms. Whealey first studied at Stanford University, attaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1951, followed by a Master of Arts in education at the University of Michigan in 1955. She subsequently attended the Ohio University, earning both a Master of Arts in political science in 1975 and a Master of Science in social science in 2007. A respected member of several professional organizations in support of her career, Ms. Whealey is a member, three-time past president, and former board member of the Athens branch of the American Association of University Women. She is also a past president of the League of Women Voters of Athens County and a former executive committee member of the Democracy Over Corporations.

Ms. Whealey's exemplary success has earned her multiple accolades over the past three decades. More recently, she was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award for Social Justice from the United Campus Ministry at the Ohio University in 2017 and a Nora Price Award from Planned Parenthood in 2009. She was also named as an Outstanding Feminist at the Athens Herstory Celebration in 2002.
