Darrin J. Brown Sr. Recognized for Excellence in Social Work

    SPRINGFIELD GARDENS, NY, October 28, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Darrin J. Brown Sr. has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Influenced by several good mentors who guided and supported him, Mr. Brown learned early in his life that he had the qualities of a good leader. He enjoyed individual supervision and knew that it was important to learn about your staff in order to effectively lead them in the right direction. Mr. Brown subsequently obtained a bachelor's degree in counseling physiology from Audrey Cohen College, a Master of Human Service Administration in nonprofit management from Audrey Cohen College and a Master of Social Work from Hunter College.

Licensed in New York State as a master social worker and a certified alcohol and substance abuse counselor, Mr. Brown additionally holds an Executive Leadership Program certificate from Columbia University. Most recently, he became certified in field instruction in order to supervise interns in the field. Mr. Brown currently excels as the senior director of the I-CAN program for the Osborne Association, a New York City-based criminal justice advocacy agency.

Throughout his career, Mr. Brown has worked in various counseling and administrative positions at juvenile detention centers, medical institutions and community mental health facilities. He also previously served as an adjunct professor at Hunter College. Over the years, Mr. Brown has gained additional expertise in working with substance abuse survivors as well as extensive experience in criminal justice matters.

In his current position, Ms. Brown has managed and developed an eight-million-dollar portfolio. He also provides administrative and management oversight for the I-CAN program, including initiatives such as Fresh Start, Jails to Jobs and other community based programs. Moreover, Mr. Brown operates as a liaison for the Osborne Association at conferences, meetings, and with the board of directors.

As a respected voice in his field, Mr. Brown has also flourished as a presenter at the Department of Corrections and Custody Services (DOCCS) Conference and the Association of Substance Abuse Professionals (ASAP) Conference. He also provides his wealth of expertise to those in need as a grant writer. Previously, he was recruited as an embassy marine and marksmanship instructor for the U.S. Marines, with which he received a Good Conduct Medal, a Cold War Commemorative Medal and a Unit Citation Medal. Mr. Brown maintains his professional affiliation with the National Association of Social Workers, the New York State Mental Health Association and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
