Karen Kirker Correa Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Education

Ms. Correa pursued her dream of helping children through a fulfilling career in education

BAYARD, NM, November 02, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Karen Kirker Correa has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

From a formative age, Ms. Correa has enjoyed working with children, particularly in witnessing them grow and evolve. Alongside this passion, she has also enjoyed politics, and thus, decided to pursue a career in education that would allow her to integrate her two areas of interest.

Ms. Correa subsequently earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Arts in Counseling, both from Western New Mexico University, in 1982 and 1999, respectively. At the inception of her career, she excelled as a receptionist for New York Life Insurance Company. Following this role, she flourished as a case worker for the State of New Mexico for several years. As such, she spent the latter stages of her career as an Academic Advisor and as the Director of Special Needs at Western New Mexico University, a role she proudly held from 1990 until her retirement in 2009.

Throughout her career, Ms. Correa has attributed her professional success to her own sense of drive. She was also greatly influenced by her aunt Ernestina Kirker, who had also received a master's degree and served as a great role model, particularly during a time period when women struggled with systemic oppression and discrimination within the professional sphere.

Ms. Correa maintains professional affiliation with the Cardinal Key National Honor Society and Pi Gamma Mu, the International Honor Society in Social Sciences. She also served as vice president of the Sigma Tau Delta Sorority, the International Honors Society in English. Looking toward the future, Ms. Correa plans to further her education and continue living a healthy, happy life.
