Thomas A. Thompson Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Mr. Thompson has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the field of art and education

GRAND BLANC, MI, November 02, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Thomas A. Thompson with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Thompson celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Thompson was a talented artist and respected teacher in the Carman Ainsworth School District in Flint, Michigan, for more than three decades. Hired in 1966, he taught and mentored thousands of students before retiring in 1998. A passionate and patient educator, he learned to teach children how to develop their own creativity through art. In this capacity, he taught students how to paint using a grid system and the process of bronze casting for sculptures, which was his specialty. Dedicated to expanding art through curriculum, Mr. Thompson notably served as the chairperson of the art curriculum committee during 1980.

Well-known for his expertise in acrylic painting and watercolor, Mr. Thompson was also renowned for his incredible woodcarvings and bronze sculptures of horse and ice skaters. Some of his most famous pieces included his bronze sculptures of the Rodeo Riders, and other sculptures in his portfolio include Saddle Up, Heading Home, 101 Rodeo, The Prayer, The Roper and Rope a Dream. Likewise, Mr. Thompson occasionally restored sculptures, and especially enjoyed repairing a large eagle that sat on the property of Sidney High School in Montana.

Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Thompson sought guidance from several mentors, including college professors and artists that would share their knowledge, techniques and support. Attributing some of his success to sculptors Jane Trotter and Charlie Russell, he was also grateful for the support of local art institutes including the Equine Art Guild and the Rodeo Riders. Mr. Thomson always found immense satisfaction in the creative process and found great gratification in the appreciation of others for his work.

An alumnus of Concordia College, Mr. Thomson received a Bachelor of Arts in 1966. He subsequently completed postgraduate coursework at Michigan State University and Oakland University between 1968 and 1972. Following these accomplishments, Mr. Thompson maintained involvement with several local organizations as a commitment to his field. He served on the advisory board of the Equine Art Guild, and was active with the Grand Blanc Arts Council and the Flint Institute of Arts.

To support his career in education, Mr. Thompson was a respected member of several local and national professional organizations, including the National Education Association, the National Art Education Association and the Michigan Art Education Association. He was also affiliated with the International Arabian Horse Association and the Arabian Horse Registry. Regrettably, Mr. Thompson died on January 28, 2020. He is survived by his wife, Aileen, and their two children.
