Charles Edwin Hockersmith, EdD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Hockersmith has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the fields of information technology, library science, music and education

NEWARK, DE, November 04, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Charles Edwin Hockersmith, EdD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Hockersmith celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Accumulating more than 35 years of professional excellence in education, Dr. Hockersmith retired in 2016 as the school librarian and musical director at Del Castle Technical High School, a public vocational-technical high school in Wilmington, Delaware. His wealth of expertise, which spanned from teaching information technology to working in school libraries, dates to 1973. Among Dr. Hockersmith's appointments, he distinguished himself at Kirk Middle School, Newark High School, Christiana High School, the University of Delaware and Cecil Community College.

A talented musician, Dr. Hockersmith plays the tuba, guitar, ukulele and, among other instruments, the baritone horn. The first in his family to become involved in music, he was the director of the First State Symphonic Band, Newark Community Band and the Chesapeake Brass Band, and often performed in local concerts in the park with the military and the school systems. He notably played and became the commander of the 287th Army Band while active in the service. Among his other civic duties, Mr. Hockersmith maintained involvement with the Christina Board of Education in Wilmington, Delaware, as the president from 1994 to 1997.

Inspired by several mentors throughout his musical career, Dr. Hockersmith pays special homage to Lincoln Fogelsanger, an elementary music teacher with whom he has kept in constant contact after all these years. He also credits George Barati, an internationally known cellist and former conductor of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. With respect to his years as a librarian, Dr. Hockersmith credits his wife for much of his success. She, too, graduated with a degree in library science. The two would often share ideas and advice with one another.

Dr. Hockersmith received a Bachelor of Science in education at Shippensburg University in 1973, followed by a Master of Library Science at Syracuse University. Years later, he returned to college, receiving a Doctor of Education in educational leadership at the University of Delaware in 2010. A respected member of several industry-related organizations, Dr. Hockersmith has been active with the American Library Association, the Library Information Technology Association, and the American Association of School Librarians.

Dr. Hockersmith served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1968 and the Delaware National Guard from 1978 to 2008. He was recognized with The Captain Robert Kirkwood Award in 1986, the Legion of Merit Award in 2008 and was named to the Hall of Fame by the Delaware Army National Guard in 2015 for his service. During his time in the Army, he also achieved the highest rank in music as a CW-5 in the 287th Army Band. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Hockersmith has been cited in the 54th through 59th editions of Who's Who in America and the seventh and eighth editions of Who's Who in American Education.
