Valerio with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Valerio celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Mr. Valerio is an established architect who celebrates close to five decades in his field. Since 1994, he has served as the principal of Valerio Dewalt Train Associates Inc. Headquartered in Chicago, with additional offices in Denver, San Francisco and Palo Alto, California, Mr. Valerio's architecture and design firm has earned recognition for its dedication in serving various types of clients, from corporate and retail, to hospitality, educational facilities and developers of new construction.

Drawing on his decades of expertise, Mr. Valerio served as the president of Valerio-Associations Inc. from 1988 to 1994. His distinguished record of leadership also included service as the vice president of architecture for A. Epstein and Sons Inc., the design director of Swanke Hayden Connell Architects and the president of Chrysalis Corporation Architects. In addition to his full-time commitments, Mr. Valerio enjoyed a tenured position in academia as an associate professor at the University of Wisconsin between 1973 and 1986. He was also a national board peer reviewer for the General Service Administration, a frequent speaker at various universities and a visiting critic and lecturer in the field of architecture.

Boasting an extensive portfolio throughout his career, Mr. Valerio's works have included such distinguished corporate buildings as the PayPal headquarters campus, the Whirlpool International Design Center and the University of Chicago's Earl Shapiro Hall and Vue53 Graduate Student Residence, as well as the Kresge Foundation headquarters in Detroit. The firm's projects have notably been featured in numerous professional publications, including Lofts/Living and Working Spaces, Inside Architecture, Domestic Interiors, New American Apartment and International Interiors. The firm's work was also featured on the cover of Architect magazine in 2016.

To support his community, Mr. Valerio has played an active role with numerous local organizations, including on the board of directors of the Chicago Chamber of Commerce, on the executive board of the men's council of the Museum of Contemporary Art, and as a past president and executive board member of the Contemporary Arts Council. He also spent many years affiliated with the Taubman School of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan between 1998 and 2016. Mr. Valerio has remained active with the Art Institute of Chicago and the Contemporary Arts Society since 1994.

Mr. Valerio received a Bachelor of Art in architecture at the University of Michigan in 1970, followed by a Master of Art in architecture at the University of California at Los Angeles in 1972. He enlisted in the U.S Army National Guard while pursuing his degrees between 1970 and 1976. Mr. Valerio is a registered architect in over a dozen different states, including Illinois, Texas and New York and is certified through the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.

In support of his career, Mr. Valerio has been instrumental as a member of several significant organizations, including the American Institute of Architects as a former program chairperson of the Design Committee of the Chicago chapter. He also served on several of the organization's other committees and was recognized with numerous National Honor Awards, Interiors Awards, Distinguished Building Awards, National Interior Honor Awards and Divine Detail Awards. Likewise, Mr. Valerio is a past president of the Chicago Architecture Club.

Recognized for his success, Mr. Valerio has received multiple awards and recognitions. More recently, he was bestowed with a HiP Award for Lifetime Achievement and was an honoree of Interiors magazine and Metropolitan Home magazines. Mr. Valerio's business was also named to Architect magazine's Top 50 Design Firms.
