Michael E. Green, PhD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Green has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the field of chemistry

NEW YORK, NY, November 09, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Michael E. Green, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Green celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Green is a professor emeritus of physical chemistry at the City University of New York (CUNY). His tenure at the university began in 1966, when he joined the faculty as an assistant professor. Progressing to full professor in 1984, he also had the opportunity to chair the department for six years between 1990 and 1996. Some of his more recent courses have included Introduction to Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and a special topics course in the doctorate program called Ion Channels. Prior to being acquired by CUNY, Dr. Green spent two years abroad as a visiting lecturer at Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey, between 1964 and 1966 as a Peace Corps volunteer.

Aside from his full-time commitments in the classroom, Dr. Green was active as the chairman of the City College of New York chapter of the faculty union, Professional Staff Congress, from 2008 to 2011. Earlier in his career, he spent time as a visiting scientist with the Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Chemical Physics at Lanzhou in 1982 and as a visiting faculty member at Hacettepe University in Ankara in 1974.

A seasoned scientist, Dr. Green is considered an expert in ion channels and nerve impulses. His research has been focused on quantum calculations on ion channels, with correlated calculations on hydrogen bonding, salt bridges, and water clusters. Attributing his years of success to his passion and work ethic, Dr. Green continues to conduct research in his laboratory in retirement.

As a result of his studies, Dr. Green has disseminated many of his research findings by authoring and co-authoring articles in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Physical Chemistry and Computational and Theoretical Chemistry. He also co-authored "Safety in Working with Chemicals" in 1978, "Use of Estimates in Solving Chemistry Problems" in 1990, and authored "Chemistry and Society: A Measurement Based Course" in 2017.

Dr. Green prepared for his career by receiving a formal education at Cornell University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1959. Continuing his studies, he was accepted to the prestigious Yale University, where he achieved both a master's and doctoral degree in 1961 and 1964, respectively. He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the California Institute of Technology.

To support his professional endeavors, Dr. Green has been a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Physical Society and the Biophysical Society. He is also a member and former chairman of the biophysics section of the New York Academy of Sciences. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Green has been featured in the 63rd and 64th editions of Who's Who in America, as well as several editions of Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the East.
