MINNEAPOLIS, MN, November 10, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Larry "Spider" J. Hamilton, 00, has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Hamilton is renowned as a veteran disc jockey, radio personality and podcast host playing New Jack Swing, soul, funk and R&B at stations across the country for more than 50 years. His radio career began in 1969, at which point he became a station assistant at Kansas City's KWKI at the age of 17. The next year, Mr. Hamilton was accepted into the Model Cities Radio Talent Center program, a career training program designed to help local youth enter the radio broadcasting industry.

With his natural talent and previous experience, Mr. Hamilton graduated as one of the top students in the program, and subsequently worked for KPRS, another Kansas City station. His career would eventually bring him to stations in the Midwest and the Twin Cities areas, as well as a residency at Denver's 1510-KDKO, which was cited as Billboard Magazine's 1983 R&B Station of the Year in Major Markets. In 1984, Mr. Hamilton helped launch one of the first cable FM stations, Minneapolis WR&B, for which he would serve as a program manager and on-air talent for several years.

Since 2016, Mr. Hamilton has excelled as the host of the New Jack SwingBeat ReVue, a two-hour weekly show on Minneapolis' KFAI-FM built around the classic sound that defined his career. He is the namesake of a scholarship at Slam Academy, a multi-city open learning initiative offering media production courses to youth, and was the recipient of a Special Recognition Award from the Minnesota Black Music Awards. He attributes his success to his "old-fashioned drive" to achieve, and to his faith and trust in God. Mr. Hamilton lives by the philosophy that it is always better to work smarter, not harder, and looks forward to continuing his career for as long as he is able, utilizing his experience and name to help the next generation of talent build their media careers.
