With 48 years of industry experience to his credit, Mr. Dilbeck has served as the principal of American Equity Investments in San Jose, California, since 1982, as well upheld his own private real estate practice, Daly Dilbeck Property Management, since 1981. He began his professional career as an engineer at the United Technology Center in Sunnyvale, California, in 1971, remaining in this position for one year before consulting for Diversicom, Inc., in Santa Clara, California. He was then an engineer at Anamet Laboratories in San Carlos, California, from 1973 to 1975 and consulted in real estate investment for Certified Capital Corporation in San Jose from 1975 to 1982. In addition to these appointments, Mr. Dilbeck served on the Los Gatos Rent Advisory Committee in 1988.
Prior to embarking on his professional path, Mr. Dilbeck pursued a formal education at Wichita State University in Kansas, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1968. He then attended Stanford University, where he obtained a Master of Science in 1969 and completed postgraduate coursework between 1970 and 1971. In the early 1970s, some of Mr. Dilbeck's friends suggested that they should start their own company. They were the first to computerize the multiple listing service process, which was previously completed entirely by hand. They were also the first to computerize the escrow process. During this time, he became more involved in real estate and decided to put real estate deals together.
Outside of his primary trade, Mr. Dilbeck keeps updated of trends in his field through affiliations with numerous organizations. He was president of Tau Beta Pi, the oldest engineering honor society and the second oldest collegiate honor society in the United States, in 1968. Additionally, Mr. Dilbeck has maintained involvement with the National Apartment Association, the San Jose Real Estate Board, the Tri-County Apartment Association, the Gold Key Club, and Sigma Gamma Tau, the American honor society in aerospace engineering.
Today, Mr. Dilbeck resides in California with his loving wife of 24 years, Carolyn Jane DeBoer, and has one wonderful son, Stephen Douglas. Through his son, he is also a grandfather to two beloved granddaughters. Mr. Dilbeck has been known to enjoy ocean yacht racing in his spare time, and has been selected for inclusion in several editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the West and Who's Who in the World.
