E.D. Gaskins, Jr. Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Gaskins, Jr. with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Gaskins celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Mr. Gaskins is a private practice attorney who, for many years has represented clients in various civil matters. He served as the managing partner of Everett Gaskins Hancock LLP until 2019. Named as the chairperson in 2020, he also serves as the firm's senior trial lawyer. Mr. Gaskins has concentrated his practice in commercial and personal injury litigation, administrative law, ad valorem tax appeals and appellate advocacy. Mr. Gaskins has litigated cases for more than five decades in federal and state courts, primarily in North Carolina. After serving two years in the U.S. Army, in 1972 he became a partner and then managing partner of Sanford, Cannon, Adams & McCullough (later Adams, McCullough and Beard), where he practiced until 1990. He became a founder and managing partner of Everett Gaskins Hancock & Stevens, LLP in 1990 and later a founding partner of Everett Gaskins Hancock in 2010.

In accounting for his success, Mr. Gaskins credits his passion for serving his clients and the community. He is especially gratified to have always maintained an equitable balance between his work and family life. Mr. Gaskins draws inspiration from his wife, Ann, his two children and six grandchildren every day.

When he is not busy at the office or with family, Mr. Gaskins is often involved with Hayes Barton Baptist Church as a parishioner, Sunday school teacher, and deacon. Other community activities have included serving as a trustee of the Raleigh Baptist Association, and as a director of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce. In years past, Mr. Gaskins has served as the president of his local Parent Teacher Association, an advisory council member of his local school district, counsel for the Wake County Interfaith Council, and chair of the board of Theater in the Park. He currently serves as a board member of Legal Aid of North Carolina, Inc. and of BarCares, which provides counseling services to members of the North Carolina legal community.

Born in New Bern, North Carolina, Mr. Gaskins received a Bachelor of Arts from Wake Forest University in 1963. He obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Duke University Law School in 1966. Mr. Gaskins has been admitted to practice law in North Carolina and the District of Columbia as well as the Supreme Court of the United States.

A respected member of numerous law-related organizations, Mr. Gaskins is a long-time member of the North Carolina Bar Association, where he has twice served on the Board of Governors and as chair of the Senior Lawyers Division. He is a founding member and two-time president of the Craven-Everett American Inn of Court. He is also a former member of the Chief Justice's Commission on Professionalism. An AV-rated attorney through Martindale-Hubbell, Mr. Gaskins' success has earned him recognition as Boss of the Year by the Wake County Legal Secretaries Association in 1989 and induction into the North Carolina Bar Association's Hall of Fame in 2012, as well as the inaugural Lawyers Weekly Hall of Fame in 2018. He was also the recipient of a Service Award from the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce in 1989. He served as president of the Wake County Bar Association in 2009 and was awarded the Association's highest award, the Joseph Branch Professionalism Award, in 2004.
