Dr. Silvia Rolle-Rissetto Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

As a professor of Hispanic Language Culture and Literature at California State University San Marcos (CSUSM), Dr. Rolle-Rissetto has distinguished herself as a celebrated educator, having been active on campus since 1996. Her success has included attaining a full professorship in 2009, serving as a Graduate Coordinator and Advisor, as Teaching Associate's Supervisor, and currently as department Chair. Likewise, Dr. Rolle-Rissetto has been and continues to be active with numerous committees at the departmental, the college, and the university level.

Teaching at the elementary, secondary and college level since 1988, Dr. Rolle-Rissetto has specialized in the subjects of English as a Second Language, Italian, French, Spanish and mathematics. She has also become a distinguished translator and interpreter for various organizations and individuals, as well as a successful creative writer and poet. Affiliated with several industry-related organizations in support of her career, Dr. Rolle-Rissetto is a member of the Hispanic Association of the Humanities, the Modern Language Association, the Hispanic Women's Literature Association, the International Association of Hispanics and the Association of Spanish Graduates and Doctors in the United States. She is also a member of the honorable society of Sigma Delta Pi.

As an educator, Dr. Rolle-Rissetto believes in the importance of keeping her students engaged. Known for her passion and enthusiasm, she works tirelessly to ensure that each of her students not only receives a good education, but leaves the classroom feeling inspired. Throughout her academic career, she has found that the key to her success resides in her ability to encourage independent thought and a curiosity for the world at large. Dr. Rolle-Rissetto also strongly believes in the Socratic Method, which includes dialogue that asks and answers questions that promote critical thinking. When she is not in the classroom, she has been instrumental as a frequent speaker at symposiums and conferences throughout the world.

Throughout her writing career, Dr. Rolle-Rissetto co-authored Plazas: Lugar de Encuentro Para La Hispanidad with Dr. Jill Pellettieri and Dr. Veronica Anover in 2001. She has also contributed introductions, forwards and chapters to several books and textbooks, as well as essays in textbooks. She is also a former co-editor for several scholarly journals. An award-winning poet, her work has been extensively published in various anthologies, as well as national and international refereed journals, and she has provided her expertise as a literary translator for such poets as Ana Maria Fagundo and Georges Friedenkraft, Elizabeth Bishop, Maya Angelou and others. She is currently working on a bilingual anthology of poetry translation.

Dr. Rolle-Rissetto prepared for her career by earning a Bachelor of Arts in French, cum laude, and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, cum laude, at California State University in Long Beach in 1987, after which she attained a Master of Arts in Spanish, summa cum laude, in 1990. Following these accomplishments, she received a Doctor of Philosophy in Spanish, summa cum laude, from the University of California Riverside in 1996. Eminently qualified in her field, Dr. Rolle-Rissetto became certified in Italian language and culture studies at the Università degli Studi di Siena.

In 1998, Dr. Rolle-Rissetto was nominated for the prestigious Harry Brakebill Distinguished Professor Award by CSUSM. Among other awards, she was recognized with a Wall of Tolerance Award from the National Campaign for Tolerance in 2004. For her poetry, Dr. Rolle-Rissetto notably won first place during the first contest of poetry and short stories at the Centro de Estudios Poeticos in 2003, and was later a semi-finalist at the Center's poetry contest in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
