Lisa Chiu Celebrates More Than 25 Years of Professional Excellence

Ms. Chiu has established herself as a versatile and hard-working figure in her respective fields

NEW YORK, NY, December 01, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Lisa Chiu has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With more than 25 years of experience to her credit, Ms. Chiu is currently retired from full-time professional efforts, having most recently excelled as a human intelligence (HUMINT) targeting officer from 2015 to 2016. Prior to this position, she served in a number of positions with the U.S. Intelligence Community in the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and the Central Intelligence Agency, including as a maritime analyst from 2003 to 2004, a logistics officer from 2004 to 2014 with an internal assignment as a special skills officer from 2006 to 2007. She previously worked as a battalion commander for the State University of New York (SUNY) Maritime College from 1998 to 2003. Ms. Chiu began her impressive career as a U.S. Merchant Marine for various passenger vessels between 1991 and 2003.

In the early years of her professional ventures, Ms. Chiu pursued an education at the SUNY Maritime College, from whom she initially obtained a Bachelor of Science in marine transportation in 1993. She returned to her studies at the aforementioned college in 2000, graduating with a Master of Science in international transportation management in 2003. In addition to these accomplishments, Ms. Chiu has earned myriad certifications, including a merchant mariner certificate and a third mate license from the U.S. Coast Guard, a Global Maritime Distress & Safety System certificate from the Federal Communications Commission, and a certification in small arms and small boats training from the U.S. Intelligence Community, among others. Since then, she has upgraded her U.S. Coast Guard license from Third Mate to Second Mate Unlimited Gross Tons, Oceans and Nera Coastal and acquired her captain's license, Master 1600 GT, Oceans and Near Coastal.

Ms. Chiu has thrived in numerous endeavors beyond her primary responsibilities in the field. She has provided her wealth of professional expertise to those in need through Maritime Academy training sessions on casino and passenger vessels, corporate, private and charter yachts, tour boats and small passenger ferries. Moreover, she has contributed to cross-training assignments, PCS tours in Europe and Asia, regional TDY assignments and level three Chinese Cantonese language assignments during her tenure in the U.S. Intelligence Community. Ms. Chiu found success with her corporate work as well, having held active roles with V-Ships and Bouchard Transportation.

Ms. Chiu has notably been affiliated with various groups within her professional circles, including the Fort Schuyler Maritime Alumni Association. Furthermore, she has maintained her involvement as a donor for multiple local organizations. In light of her exceptional undertakings, Ms. Chiu was presented with the Mission Critical Language Award and numerous Exceptional Performance Awards from the U.S. Intelligence Community.

Ms. Chiu attributes her success to the influence of her parents, who instilled in her a sense of patriotism, hard work, integrity and commitment, as well as her education at the SUNY Maritime College. As a first generation Asian American seeking a nontraditional professional path, she was inspired to shift her focus from maritime work to government service after the events of September 11, 2001, which emboldened her to give back to her country. In a career filled with many highlights, she fondly recalls her graduate studies at SUNY Maritime College, as she was able to mentor and offer guidance to the graduating classes in their career pursuits, many of whom are now doing the same for the next generation of maritime cadets. Proud to have traveled around the world over the years, Ms. Chiu hopes to consult, recruit, mentor, train or teach in the coming years while continuing to improve upon her own knowledge and advocacy for community service.
