For more than 30 years, Mr. Williams proudly served the community of New Haven, Connecticut, as a park ranger within the New Haven Department of Parks, Recreation and Trees. From a young age, Mr. Williams was passionate about animals and the outdoors, and he began to develop an interest in wildlife rehabilitation after joining a local club sponsored by the West Rock Nature Center. Initially hoping to become a veterinarian, he completed two years of professional education before realizing that his ambitions had shifted.
A natural teacher, Mr. Williams sought a career that would allow him to combine his passion for wilderness with his talent for communication, and found that working as a park ranger allowed him to do both. From 1989 until his retirement in 2020, Mr. Williams was responsible for environmental education, parks maintenance and wildlife rehabilitation in addition to supervision of recreation programs, including archery and teambuilding courses. During the course of his career, he has also demonstrated versatility in his profession through the authorship of two books.
Mr. Williams credits his success to his drive to expand his knowledge and explore as many opportunities as he could find. He expresses special gratitude to his early professional mentors, who encouraged his spirit of discovery and creative approach to educational outreach. Mr. Williams is a former member of the Connecticut Challenge Course Association, and looks forward to volunteering as a docent and educator at his local zoo in his retirement. He also intends to write more books in the forthcoming years.
