Robert Winston Milnes Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    ASHEVILLE, NC, December 04, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Robert Winston Milnes with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Milnes celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Dr. Milnes is a talented artist whose professional career began at the Cornish School of Allied Arts in Seattle teaching ceramics courses. He later attained the roles of a professor and chairperson of the art department at Edinboro University in Pennsylvania, the director of the school of art at Louisiana State University and director of the school of art and design at San Jose State University. More recently, Dr. Milnes enjoyed serving as the dean of the college of visual arts and design at the University of North Texas for eight years before being named as the dean emeritus in 2014. Apart from his full-time commitments, he has utilized his tenure and expertise by consulting and serving as an evaluator for over 60 institutions throughout the U.S. and abroad.

A renowned sculptor and ceramist, Dr. Milnes's artwork has been included in over 180 national and international exhibitions. They are included in collections at the Smithsonian Institution, the Seattle Arts Commission, the San Jose Museum of Art and other locations throughout the U.S. His works have also been included in numerous private collections. his sculptures are presently being represented at the Bender Gallery in Asheville, North Carolina, and the Photographs Do Not Bend (PDNB) Gallery in Dallas. In late 2020, Dr. Milnes took part in a virtual solo show at the PDNB Gallery, the Philadelphia Museum of Art craft show, and the American Museum of Ceramic Art Virtual Open Studio and Sale.

Lending his knowledge and expertise in the arts, Dr. Milnes has been greatly engaged in relative community activities for more than 25 years. He was the chairperson of the San Jose-Santa Clara County cultural planning committee, the president and a member of the board of trustees of the Arts Council of Silicon Valley, as well as a board director of the Montalvo Arts Center and the North Texas Business Council for the Arts. Likewise, Dr. Milnes served on the board of the Center for Craft in Asheville from 2016 to 2019.

First introduced to woodcarving while in high school, it was not until Dr. Milnes' junior year in college that he began studying sculpture and then ceramics. In 1970, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and fine arts at Claremont McKenna College. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Milnes obtained a Master of Fine Art in ceramics at the University of Washington in 1974 and a Doctor of Philosophy in higher education administration at the University of Pittsburgh in 1987.

Dr. Milnes has been actively engaged with various professional organizations relative to his field. He has notably been a lifetime fellow of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design since 2012. He is also a member and past president of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, as well as the National Council of Art Administrators. Celebrated for his success, Dr. Milnes was the recipient of the Bautzer Award for University Development from the California State University System and a Design Leadership Award from the International Interior Design Association. He was also featured in the October 2018 edition of Asheville Made, and the University of North Texas College of Visual Arts and Design named its advisement center after him for his generous contributions to the school.
