Marquis Who's Who Honors John Morita Presented with Inclusion in Who's Who in the World

    HONOLULU, HI, December 08, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to honor John Morita with inclusion in Who's Who in the World. An accomplished listee, Mr. Morita celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A Hawaii native, Mr. Morita has become renowned and respected as an artist and photographer who has been mastering his skills for nearly 50 years. His portfolio includes hundreds of etchings, photo-etchings, and photographs of people, buildings, still life and other objects. He has also completed several series, including one of the Charles Ware Family in San Francisco from 1972 to 2020, and one of the Palestinian Intifada. The Palestinian series was notably a collection that he assembled after being invited to participate in three tours to Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories by several human rights groups in Chicago and New York between 1986 and 1989. Throughout his career, Mr. Morita's work has been included in solo art exhibits at the Medusa Gallery in Berlin, the Honolulu Academy of Arts, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Alternative Museum in NYC, and The Print Club in Philadelphia. Drawing upon his decades of experience, Mr. Morita taught various art courses as a lecturer at the University of Hawaii at Manoa in Honolulu from 1982 to 1983 and Windward Community College in Kaneohe, Hawaii from 1991 to 1992. As an extension of his commitment to academia, he also served on the board of directors and on the program advisory board at Kapiolani Community College in Honolulu from 1992 to 1994. The former vice president and member of the board of directors of the Honolulu Printmaking Workshop, Mr. Morita has been a dedicated member of the Northwest Print Council and the American Print Alliance. Mr. Morita pursued an education at Chaminade College, earning a Bachelor of Art in history in 1965. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army, completing his service as a military intelligence analyst and order of battle specialist between 1966 and 1969. Continuing his studies, Mr. Morita obtained a Bachelor of Fine Art in photography at San Francisco Art Institute in 1974 and a Master of Art in printmaking at San Francisco State University in 1976. Recognized numerous times for his work accolades to his credit include a First Prize Award from Intergrafik 87" International Print Triennial in Berlin in 1987, which resulted in a Retrospective art exhibit at Intergrafik 90' International Print Trienniale in Berlin, a Selection Award from the Print Club in Philadelphia in 1988, and a Fellowship Merit Award from the Hawaii State Foundation of Culture and Alts in 1995. Additionally, Mr. Morita accepted a fellowship in printmaking from the National Endowment of the Arts in 1986. In July 2018 John Morita's teacher Patty Benson at the SFAI in 1972 joined him and the Ware family for their 46th year reunion at a retirement home in Hell's Kitchen where Linda Ware received permission to use the community garden for this special gathering! In attendance were Laura (Ware) Cruz who is working as a lawyer, her husband David Cruz and their two children, Charlie and Luca. Gabriel Ware works as a security guard, John Morita's girlfriend Valerie Harmon who is in the series, and Patt Blue a renowned photographer friend. John Morita is also working on two rough cut artist documentaries of The Charles and Linda Ware family, and artist Satoru Abe in Hawaii. Two short videos on elderly Hawaii artists are on Vimeo.
