Laurie Mintz, PhD, Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Psychology

Dr. Mintz is a writer, educator, speaker and therapist best known for her work on human sexuality



    GAINESVILLE, FL, December 14, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Laurie Mintz, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Dr. Mintz is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Florida, and a licensed psychologist and sex therapist working with patients in a private-practice setting. She describes her practice as sex-positive and feminist, and is the author of two books on sexuality and relationships, most recently the Society for Sex Therapy and Research Consumer Book of the year Award-winning "Becoming Cliterate: Why Orgasm Equality Matters and How to Get It" in 2017 and "The Tired Woman's Guide to Passionate Sex" in 2009. Dr. Mintz holds a Bachelor of Science in psychology, summa cum laude, from Union College, and both a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy in psychology from The Ohio State University.

Much of Dr. Mintz' research has focused on the etiology and treatment of body image issues, eating disorders and female sexual concerns. She is a former professor at the University of Southern California and the University of Missouri, and saw patients at the Center for Family and Individual Counseling in Columbia, Missouri for more than 20 years before transitioning into solo practice upon moving to Florida in 2011 to take a position at the University of Florida Along with teaching graduate and undergraduate students at UF, from 2012 – 2017, Dr. Mintz served as the associate chair of the Department of Psychology.

Dr. Mintz is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, indicating that her work has had a significant national influence on the profession of Psychology in general and both counseling psychology and the psychology of women in specific. She has been invited to present at academic conferences across the country, and for non-professional audiences, including a 2019 TED Talk.

Throughout her career, Dr. Mintz has been presented with numerous awards and accolades in recognition of her teaching and research excellence, notably the William T. Kemper Fellowship for Excellence in Teaching, the University of Missouri's highest teaching honor, as well as the George H. Catlin Prize from her undergraduate alma mater and multiple American Psychological Association citations for supervision and publication. Dr. Mintz is a member of the Society for Sex Therapy and Research, the International Study for the Society of Women's Sexual Health and the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality. She has also been nominated as the incoming President for the Society for Sex Therapy and Research.
