Harry Cornelius Veryser Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

An accomplished listee, Mr. Veryser celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Having accrued well over five decades of inimitable experience in the fields of education and manufacturing, Mr. Veryser has garnered a laudable reputation as an adjunct professor of economics on behalf of the University of Detroit Mercy since 1984, during which time he held the role of the director of graduate studies in economics from 2007 until 2012. Widely traveled through the halls of academia throughout the course of his career, he also found success with Walsh College as a professor and the chair of the department of economics and finance from 1987 until 2006, whereupon he was recognized as a distinguished professor until his departure in 2007. He also directed two of the university master's programs. Additional educational positions to Mr. Veryser's credit include his visiting professorships with Wu Hu Technological University, the Thomas More College of Liberal Arts and Ave Maria University, as well as his earlier positions as an adjunct professor of philosophy at Saint Mary's College, an adjunct professor of economics and ethics at Northwood University, and an instructor of economics and philosophy at both the Northwood Institute and Hillsdale College. He initially became an educator in the state of Michigan, working at several area secondary schools from 1967 until 1972.

Adjacent to his professional journey in education, Mr. Veryser has worked in the private sector as the co-founder and chief executive officer of the American Council on Economics and Society since 1985. Likewise, he was the chair of the board of directors of Stampings Inc., which was a manufacturing company active in Michigan and Texas, until the company's acquisition by Spring Engineering, Inc. in 2005. Outside of his primary career path, Mr. Veryser has served as the treasurer of the Thomas More College of Liberal Arts since 2009 and in a similar capacity for Grotto Press since 2000, of which he is also a board director. Likewise, he has been a board director, trustee and adviser of such institutions as the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, the Philadelphia Society, the Long Island Opera, Detroit Collegiate High School, the Acton Institute and De La Salle Collegiate High School. In the public sphere, Mr. Veryser also served as a member of the Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission from 1994 until 1996, which handles cases regarding judicial misconduct within the state.

An accomplished writer, Mr. Veryser has contributed a wealth of articles to local newspapers, including the Detroit News. He served much the same purpose on behalf of the Intercollegiate Review, and penned book reviews for the Acton Institute Newsletter, as well as the University Bookman. In addition, Mr. Veryser authored "It Didn't Have to Be This Way" in 2012 and "Our Economic Crisis: Sources and Solutions" in 1991.

In seeking a formal education, Mr. Veryser attended the University of Detroit Mercy, from which he attained a Bachelor of Arts in economics and philosophy in 1966. Continuing his studies almost two decades later, he received a Master of Arts in religious studies in 1983 and a Master of Arts in economics in 1984. Mr. Veryser was also notably bestowed with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from the Thomas More College of Liberal Arts in 2009.

Well regarded for his indelible contributions to the field, Mr. Veryser has been the recipient of numerous accolades throughout the course of his career. In addition to being recognized as a Teacher of the Year by the Northwood Institute in 1973, he was likewise presented with the Will Herberg Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2004, being one of 10 nationally selected professors by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute to receive such an honor. Moreover, Mr. Veryser was acknowledged as an associate scholar of the Ludwig von Mises Institute in 2012 and as a Knight Commander of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem in 2015.

To remain aware of developments affecting the field, Mr. Veryser has maintained his professional affiliation with a number of pertinent organizations. To wit, he has been a member of the Philadelphia Society, the Prismatic Club of Detroit and the Fine Arts Society of Detroit, as well as a past member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Outside of his vocational circles, Mr. Veryser enjoys such diversions as cooking, entertaining guests and reading books.
