Presently, she provides a range of service to patients as a private practice professional in Juno Beach, Florida. Having established her current practice in 2000, Ms. Compton offers family therapy services to children, adolescents and adults, and works with clients through various life transitions, those dealing with the many stressors of daily life and those suffering from anxiety, as well as other mental health issues.
Having begun her career in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 1983, Ms. Compton was hired as a medical and psychiatric social worker for the Imperial Point Medical Center. She subsequently acquired roles with District IX/Health and Rehabilitation Services in West Palm Beach, Florida, and continually progressed into leading roles throughout the state. Entering private practice in 1991 for the first time, Ms. Compton also held the title of a Clinical Supervisor for the Center for Children in Crisis in West Palm Beach from 1991 to 1996 before returning to private practice.
Fortunate to work in a field that enabled her to enjoy the flexibility of being able to specialize in numerous areas, Ms. Compton decided on focus on social work because she felt she could be of more value to others. She is especially proud to have worked so closely with child and in the field of family advocacy, since it allows her to help multiple members of a family at the same time. However, in situations where she only works with one family member, Ms. Compton is still influencing the entire unit, which is very pleasing.
Ms. Compton received a formal education at Florida Atlantic University, where she received a Bachelor of Art in psychology in 1983. Continuing her studies, she was accepted to Barry University, also in Florida, where she earned a Master of Social Work in 1985. Ms. Compton is a licensed clinical social worker and chemical dependency specialist, as well as a board certified diplomate in clinical social work for competency in children and family therapy.
Aligned with several significant professional organizations in relation to her career, Ms. Compton is presently a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the Palm Beach County Juvenile Association, the Palm Beach County Mental Health Association, the Academy of Certified Social Workers and the Human Rights Advocacy Organization. She is also a member of the Palm Beach County Special Olympics. A celebrated Marquis listee, Ms. Compton has been cited in the third edition of Who's Who Among Human Services Professionals and the 22nd, 23rd, and 25th editions of Who's Who of American Women.
