DIMONDALE, MI, December 23, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Charles D. Mackenzie, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

For over four decades, Dr. Mackenzie has excelled as a consulting veterinary pathologist and tropical medicine specialist, educator and public health consultant. Careers in medicine are a family tradition, and his interest in veterinary medicine was sparked by his childhood activities with horses. He holds a Doctorate in Veterinary Science and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Sydney, and spent much of his career focusing on the identification and treatment of neglected tropical diseases (NTD).

Following a research position at the National Institutes for Medical Research in London, Mackenzie served as for several years as head of the Wolfson Tropical Pathology Unit at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He then became Professor and Chair of the Department of Pathology at Michigan State University, where he continued to teach and research until 2017. His research and fieldwork has contributed to the implementation of community-based treatment and prevention plans for lymphatic filariasis and onchocerciasis (River Blindness) in Africa, Latin America and Yemen, spending much of his time in the field in many of the countries endemic for these diseases.

Since 2017, Dr. Mackenzie has been a NTD specialist for the Task Force for Global Health, where he continues his public health development work with the national programs in many countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America, with a special focus on Yemen, India, Sudan, South Sudan, Cameroon, Mali and Tanzania. Mackenzie is currently the Chair of the Global Alliance to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis.

In recognition of his extensive contributions to global public health, Dr. Mackenzie was awarded the Order of Australia in 2012. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathology, and has been an active volunteer for a donkey Rescue Organisation for more than 25 years, as well as serving on other boards and community committees. Dr. Mackenzie attributes his success to a continued passion for implementing health care for international health issues, and seeing the benefits this provides to under-privileged communities and the many affected patients, and looks forward to seeing the continuing success of the programs he works with over the next several years.
