Carter E. Strang Commended for Excellence in the Field of Law & Community Leadership

    SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH, December 31, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Carter E. Strang has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Before attending law school, Mr. Strang earned Jennings Scholar and Taft Fellow teaching awards in his career as a Shaker Heights High School teacher and coach (1974 to 1983). The first in his family to practice law, he became interested law through his exposure to local attorneys that were guest speakers in the classes he taught. He found teaching and coaching excellent leadership training, which he later put to use as a trial attorney and in the community.

A 1973 graduate of Kent State University -- where he was a member of the Honors College, played football and ice hockey, and later obtained his M. Ed. -- Mr. Strang received his Juris Doctorate from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 1984 after attending its evening program He was an associate and partner with Arter & Hadden from 1984-2003. In 2003, Mr. Strang became a founding partner at Tucker Ellis, where he handles a broad range of matters in state and federal courts, with a primary focus on environmental, mass tort, and product liability litigation. Mr. Strang has only lost one trial in over four decades of practice. A frequent author and speaker on a wide variety of legal topics, his articles have been published over 50 times. His presentation on the May 4, 1970 Kent State Shootings and its Legal Aftermath has been presented numerous times to law schools, bar associations, law firms, and to the general public. Mr. Strang is the subject of may feature articles, and he has been frequently quoted in The National Law Journal, The New York Times, Law 360, and other publications on a variety of legal topics.

Mr. Strang has a Martindale-Hubbell® AV Preeminent® Peer Rating, its highest rating level of professional excellence for legal expertise, communication skills, and ethical standards based on confidential peer reviews. He has received Top Rated Lawyers Guide to Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Law and Top Rated Lawyers, Cleveland's Legal Leaders recognition.

He is the only person to have served as president of both the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association (CMBA) and the Federal Bar Association, Northern District of Ohio Chapter. Mr. Strang is president of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Foundation. He is vice president of the Shaker Schools Foundation. Mr. Strang is chairman of the board of the Cleveland Council on World Affairs and Kent State University Honors College Advisory Board. He serves as a Leader-in-Residence at Cleveland Marshall College of Law. He is immediate past chair of the board of the Center for Community Solutions. Mr. Strang is also a member of the Judge John M. Manos American Inn of Court.

Though his work with the bar associations and as a Tucker Ellis partner, he has created and fostered innovative, award-winning educational, environmental, and diversity programs and initiatives that serve as models nationwide.

Mr. Strang created the Louis Stokes Scholars Program, a CMBA pipeline diversity initiative that provides paid college internships to urban students interested in becoming attorneys. He also created and coordinates the Tucker Ellis Pipeline Diversity Program that features firm partnerships with urban schools in its Cleveland, Los Angeles, and San Francisco offices. Mr. Strang created the CMBA Green Initiative that certifies local law firms for environmentally responsible practices, and he was instrumental in creation of the Tucker Ellis Green Initiative.

Mr. Strang is the principle author of the CMBA 3Rs Program that provides instruction in the law and career counseling to Cleveland and East Cleveland Municipal High School students. He also serves as a high school mock trial coach and is past chair of the Cleveland Early College High School Advisory Board.

He is a member of the Cleveland-Marshall and Kent City Schools Hall of Fame and received the Kent State University Distinguished Alumni Award and the Cleveland-Marshall Law Alumni Association Alumni of the Year Awards. Mr. Strang received the Federal Bar Association Elaine "Boots" Fisher Award for Exemplary Community, Public, and Charitable Service, the Ohio State Bar Foundation Ramey Award for Community Service, the Defense Research Institute Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys Distinguished Contributions to the Community Award. He also received the CMBA Green Sustainability and Justice for All Volunteer of the Year Awards as well as the Kent State University Distinguished Honors College Alumni Award.

A resident of Shaker Heights, Ohio, Mr. Strang is a multi-term citizen member of city council committees and past president of the Shaker Youth Ice Hockey Association. A Shaker Democratic Party Precinct Committeeman he also serves as a member of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party Executive Committee.

Throughout his tenure, Mr. Strang has been bestowed with a number of accolades, including the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Green Initiative Committee Sustainability Award, Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association Justice for All Volunteer of the Year Award in 2010, the Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys Distinguished Contributions to the Community Award in 2010, and the Kent State University Distinguished Honors College Alumni Award in 2011. He was also inducted into the Kent City Schools Hall of Fame the same year. Additionally, Mr. Strang received the 2013 FBA Elaine "Boots" Fisher Award, the 2014 Defense Research Institute Lifetime Community Service Award, the 2014 Kent State University Distinguished Alumni Award;, the 2014 Ohio State Bar Association Ramey Award for Community Service, and the 2016 Cleveland-Marshall College of Law Alumni Association Alumnus of the Year Award.

He maintains his affiliation with the Cleveland Council on World Affairs, (chair) the Ohio Association of Civil Trial Lawyers, the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, the Manos Inn of Court, the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party, the City of Shaker Heights Neighborhood Revitalization & Development Committee, Classrooms to Corporations, the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Foundation, The Eighth District (Ohio) Judicial Conference, Suburban Temple - Kol Ami, John M.
