John Cother Leissring, MD, Celebrated for Dedication to the Fields of Medicine and Art

    SANTA ROSA, CA, January 06, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- John Cother Leissring, MD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Leissring is a retired physician currently focusing on his work as the owner of J.C. Leissring Fine Art. Born into a family with a strong artistic tradition, Dr. Leissring's creative ventures were inspired by the work of his great grandfather, Victorian mezzotint engraver John Cother Webb. A working fine artist and a dedicated collector, Dr. Leissring owns more than 7,000 works, including much of his great grandfather's oeuvre.

Established in 1970, J.C. Leissring Fine Art specializes in European and American works from the 17th century onward, with several salon-style gallery locations and a strong web presence (www.jclfa.com). He owns J. C. Leissring Fine Arts Press which presently publishes 33 titles on a variety of subjects and artists. In addition to his work in the fine art world, Dr. Leissring has enjoyed a successful career as a clinical pathologist, retiring in 2000 after more than 35 years of practice. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Dr. Leissring holds a Bachelor of Science in medical science, a Master of Science in cell biology and anatomy, and earned his Doctor of Medicine in 1961.

After a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at Stanford University, including a term of service as clinical research assistant proctor in autopsy pathology, Dr. Leissring was named the laboratory director at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, a position he held until his retirement. From 1974 to 2000, Dr. Leissring was a partner of Drs. Leissring and DeMeo, a dermatology-pathology practice based in Santa Rosa, California. He has contributed articles to numerous esteemed publications, including the Anatomical Record, the American Journal of Anatomy, the American Journal of Diseases of Childhood, the Journal of Urology, American Journal of Medicine, the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and is the winner of the prestigious Borden Award for Undergraduate Research. A member of Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society, Phi Kappa Phi, a fellow of the American College of Pathologists and the American Society of Clinical Patholgists, and former president of the Sonoma County Medical Association (1974).

Dr. Leissring is an accomplished jazz musician, with appearances on more than 40 recordings, and continues to explore his diverse interests in art, architecture, computer coding and piano.
