Eugene B. Irish Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Workers' Rights

Mr. Irish celebrates more than 20 years as a worker's advocate for the United Industrial Workers Union

CHRISTIANSTED, VIRGIN ISLANDS, January 06, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Eugene B. Irish has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Growing up on his family's property, Mr. Irish greatly admired his parents' drive and diligent work ethics as they took little and made much for him and his siblings. His father dropped out of school to aid his mother's farm and take care of the animals to earn a better living and provide for his family. He also taught himself to become a master mechanic, and over the years, he earned enough finances to leave the property for his five children. Mr. Irish's mother, Marjorie Richardson, worked hard as a home maker and ran her own business out of the home. Mr. Irish attributes his love of reading and patience to his mother.

Drawing upon his familial history and understanding of a hard work ethic, Mr. Irish began his career as a field representative for the United Industrial Workers Union in 1999. After serving as an assistant vice president, he became vice president of the company in 2005, a position he still holds today. In his current role, Mr. Irish oversees operations of the union for the Caribbean region. Likewise, he supervises a staff of four employees, and he is responsible for negotiating contracts for wages and benefits, handling issues and complaints, and meeting with commissioners, government officials and company executives.

As a dedicated professional, Mr. Irish fought with his fellow labor leaders to raise the minimum wage for government employees from $5 per hour when he started to $13 dollars per hour currently. In his community, he has been active with his local Work Force Investment Board, Virgin Island Apprentice Council, as well as community churches and youth councils where he is helping disenfranchised youth, and is a member of the local Central Labor Council.

Throughout his career, Mr. Irish has attributed his professional success to his parents, who always supported his endeavors. As an entrepreneur, Mr. Irish has built two successful businesses in the entertainment field. Those businesses and his skills as an engineer have given him the opportunity to work with celebrities and artists from around the world. Looking toward the future, he plans to train his children to take over the business. He would also like to leave a legacy for his children and grandchildren in the hopes that they, too, will leverage his influence to establish resounding careers.
