ROANOKE, VA, January 07, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Matt Mathew, MD, FACP, has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Mathew grew up as the third of five children. He father was a Supreme Court lawyer in India and his mother was a teacher. However, both of his parents wanted to pursue a career in medicine, which engendered Mr. Mathew with a desire to go in to the field as well. He eventually desired to become the first in his family to go into medicine and went on to study nephrology. Subsequently, he decided to study in India at the prestigious Christian Medical College Vellore, as the first successful kidney transplant and the first successful dialysis procedure were performed in India.
Dr. Mathew received a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in 1975, and then completed a residency in internal medicine in 1978 and a fellowship in nephrology in 1982. He then relocated to Canada, completing a fellowship with the Kidney Foundation at the University of Alberta in 1985. The same year, he also completed a Master of Science in medicine from the University of Alberta. He then moved to the United States to receive a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Virginia, which he attained in 1989.
Leveraging 40 years of experience in nephrology, Dr. Mathew has treated patients in intensive care units and dialysis units, thus developing a specialty for kidney transplants. Most notably, he was the first transplant nephrologist in the Roanoke area of Virginia. As a talented physician, Dr. Mathew has been recognized as a Top Doctor in Nephrology numerous times in the past eight years. He also received an award for his exceptional bedside manner for 10 consecutive years. Over the years, he has also received several accolades for his research in transplant immunology. As a respected voice in his field, he has published numerous papers on immunology transplants and hypertension transplants through multiple nephrology conferences.
Throughout his career, Dr. Mathew has attributed his professional success to his teachers, who encouraged him to focus on his strengths. He credits his teachers for pushing his development in his early years. Civically engaged as well, he has given talks in his community about kidney health care, diabetes and dialysis. He also appeared on television with the Kidney Foundation. Dr. Mathew maintains professional affiliation with the American College of Physicians, with whom he is a fellow, and the American Board of Internal Medicine. In the coming years, Dr. Mathew would like to move toward part-time work and get involved in teaching and free clinic work as a form of charity.
