With more than 45 years of practiced experience in accounting under his belt, Dr. Lee excels as the president of J. Lee Associates and with the Lee Accountancy Group, Inc., which he established in 2013. Additionally, he has parlayed his expertise to others as a tax and business columnist with the Korea Times since 2008. Earlier in his career, he worked as the president of J.H. Lee Accountants Corp. from 1977 until 1997, a senior accountant for Clark, Wong, Foulkes & Barbieri, CPAs between 1974 and 1977 and as a cost accountant and internal auditor for Foremost-McKesson Co. during the early 1970s. As a young man, Dr. Lee also completed service in the Korean Marine Corps as a corporal.
Over the years, Dr. Lee has served as an instructor and lecturer with numerous institutions, including Armstrong College, San Francisco State University and the U.S. Korea Business Institute. He also utilized his expertise on the boards of the Center of Korean Studies, the Institute of East Asian Studies, the University of California Berkeley and the Argosy University School of Business. Even though his career has been filled with highlights, he is exceptionally proud to have earned a Doctor of Business Administration from Argosy University at the age of 66 in 2007. More recently, Dr. Lee was honorably selected to be a command speaker for his alma mater, Sonoma State University.
A certified public accountant in the state of California, Dr. Lee obtained a Bachelor of Science from Hanyang University in 1965 before graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from Sonoma State University in 1971. In pursuit of higher education, he continued his studies at Golden Gate University, accruing a Master of Business Administration in taxation in 1976. Moreover, Dr. Lee retains his professional alignment with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the National Association of Asian American CPAs, the American Accounting Association, the National Association of Accountants, the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Devoted to his community, Dr. Lee has contributed to several organizations, including the Oakland Masonic Center, the Easter Bay Asian Local Development Corp., the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, the United Methodist Church and the Korean Residents Association, to name a few. For his outstanding work in the field, the Mayor of Oakland designated March 5, 2004 as Jong H. Lee Day.
