Mr. Tao is a celebrated figure in his industry, having specialized in the design and creation of systems for nearly four decades. An expert in software engineering, system engineering and project management, he enjoyed a tenured career with AT&T Bell Laboratories in Holmdel, New Jersey, for nearly two decades. Acquired after college as a member of the technical staff, he was later promoted to become a distinguished member of the technical staff in 1990 before serving as a manager between 1994 and 2000. Other noteworthy positions to Mr. Tao's credit have included serving as the executive director of Village Networks, a start-up company where he was instrumental in the company's success, in the defense industry as the principal engineer for General Dynamics and as a lead member of the technical staff for Lockheed Martin.
During his professional endeavors, Mr. Tao provided his time and expertise to the standards committee of the International Telecommunication Union and led the group as Special Rapporteur to develop echo canceller standards. In support of his career, Mr. Tao has been a prominent member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He is also a member of Tau Beta Pi.
In the coming years, Mr. Tao plans to continue working on software developments such as iPhone applications. He also aspires to start his own company. Constantly inspired by those such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Warren Buffet, Mr. Tao is fortunate to have been mentored by several great colleagues throughout his career, which has been most beneficial.
Mr. Tao was born in Hong Kong in 1960 and came to the U.S. with his family at the age of seven. After graduating from high school, he studied at Columbia University where he attained a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Science, and a professional degree in electrical engineering in 1981, 1982 and 1994, respectively. A celebrated Marquis listee, Mr. Tao has been featured in the 25th edition of Who's Who in the East.
