Terrence William Macy, PhD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    MADISON, CT, January 14, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Terrence William Macy, PhD, Ph.D., FAAIDD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Macy celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Retired from a 53 year profession in the nonprofit sector since 2019, Dr. Macy concluded his career with the Delaware Division of Developmental Services after four years as the director of community services. In this role, he was responsible for the oversight of residential and day supports, employment, family supports, respite and transition services throughout the state. He previously served for four years as the Connecticut Department of Developmental Services Commissioner, a $1.1 billion agency that included a staff of approximately 5,000. The organization supports persons with intellectual and development disabilities. Prior to this period of employment, Dr. Macy served with SARAH TUXIS Residential and Community Resources Inc., where he was the executive director for more than two decades and led initiatives to provide various support services to individuals with disabilities.

Leveraging his exemplary talents, Dr. Macy was an adjunct professor in the nonprofit management graduate program at the University of Connecticut between 1996 and 1999. He was also the chairperson of the Regional Human Rights Commission and a consultant for the Florida Department of Mental Retardation. Additionally, Dr. Macy authored "A Resource Manual on Transition Shock" in 1985.

Actively engaged in his community, Dr. Macy was a member of the Madison Inland Wetlands Commission before serving for 20 years on the Madison Planning and Zoning Commission. He also played a leadership role in the Madison Democratic Town Committee for several years. Former commitments to his credit have included serving as the vice president of the Bethel Cooperative Extension Service Council in Bethel, Connecticut, and as the vice chairperson of the Brookfield Democratic Town Committee. Furthermore, Dr. Macy maintained involvement with the Brookfield Planning Commission.

Dr. Macy received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology at Assumption College in 1970. He later graduated from the Ohio State University, where he completed both a Master and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Developmental Psychology in 1977 and 1980, respectively. An elected fellow of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Dr. Macy has served in various capacities over the years, including as the secretary of the Ohio chapter, the chairperson of the administrative division and the president. He is also a former board director of the Connecticut Association of Residential Facilities and a past president of the Board of the Connecticut Association of Nonprofits. More recently, Dr. Macy received an honorary Doctorate in Laws from Assumption University.

Further, Dr. Macy was an active participant of the U.S. Jaycees. His contributions there were notably acknowledged with a Governor's Civic Leadership Award in 1985 and 1989. Celebrated for his standout successes, Dr. Macy more recently received a Certificate of Special Recognition from Senator Richard Blumenthal in 2013 and a Special Recognition from the Arc of New London County in 2013. Other accolades to his credit include a President's Award from the National Conference of Executive Directors of the Arc in 2012, a Lifetime Hero Award from the AAIDD in 2012, and, among others, a Certificate of Appreciation from the SARAH TUNIX board of directors in 2009 and 2013.
