Mathy Milling Downing Celebrated for Dedication to the Fields of Education and Nonprofit

Ms. Downing has been the recipient of three International Humanitarian Awards



    LAYTONSVILLE, MD, January 21, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mathy Milling Downing has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Downing has had a long and successful career as an elementary/special education school teacher for North Carolina, Delaware and Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland. Most recently she has served as a Title I nonpublic school teacher for grades kindergarten through fifth grade. Title I is the largest federal aid program in the United States by the U.S. Department of Education, and is part of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. Ms. Downing has notably taught in Montgomery County for 33 years and received her Masters in Counseling in 2000, a skill which has strengthened her individual teaching process, recognizing the whole child emotionally as well as academically.

Aside from her work in education, Ms. Downing became an internationally recognized child advocate and activist in the fall of 2004 following the untimely death of her young daughter. More recently she has become an alliance member of No More About Drugs, a nonprofit comprised of a host of renowned doctors, medical experts, documentary film makers, and other concerned activists. This organization is dedicated to warning parents, care givers, therapists, counselors, teachers, and the general public about the potential for adverse and dangerous side effects that prescribed psychotropic drugs can have on children and teenagers including but not limited to self-harm, suicidal ideation and suicide.

Ms. Downing became an advocate on behalf of No More About Drugs alliance in light of her own tragic experience and as witness to the devastating and harmful effects of these powerful drugs. Never warned of such risks prior to the death of her daughter, Ms. Downing has since devoted much of her spare time speaking out on behalf of the children and parents who do not have a voice, providing valuable resources and a deep understanding of the issues. Communicating her message throughout the country and worldwide, she has appeared on radio as well as on numerous news channels such as CNN, CBS, MSNBC, ABC, Fox, and NBC. She has also been interviewed for numerous articles in publications such as the Washington Post, the NY Times, Business Week, and U.S. News & World Report. She has testified before the Food and Drug Administration and has been featured in three award winning documentaries pertaining to the tragic way in which her daughter lost her life.

Through her community, Ms. Downing enjoys serving on numerous boards and committees. She recently joined the National Board of the United Thank Offering as the Province III representative. In addition, she is an active participant on the board Of the Episcopal Church Women for the Diocese of Washington, DC, and sits on the board of African Palms, recently traveling to Tanzania on their behalf. Ms. Downing is an alumnus of Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Adaptive Physical Education and a Certification in Special Education in 1976.Continuing her studies, she earned a Masters Equivalency in 1989 by continuing her studies in Special Education at Appalachian State University, the University of Delaware and George Washington University. Ms. Downing completed her Masters in Elementary School Counseling at John's Hopkins University in 2000. Ms. Downing holds six certificates in the field of education.

Active with the International Society of Ethical Psychology and Psychiatry in support of her career, Ms. Downing is also a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, the international sorority of Outstanding Women Educators. She continues to be a life long learner and an advocate for many.
