Gary Paul Wright Celebrated for Dedication to the Gay Community

Mr. Wright dedicates himself to providing HIV/AIDS prevention services to the gay community through the African American Office of Gay Concerns

NEWARK, NJ, February 01, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gary Paul Wright has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

While living in Los Angeles during the height of AIDS crisis, Mr. Wright decided to move to New York City and began volunteering with the Gay Men's Health Crisis. Eventually, he was hired by the institution as part of the staff before meeting his husband, Peter, a nurse practitioner. In 2000, he and Peter established the African American Office of Gay Concerns, where he remains today as an executive director. In his role as the founder, Mr. Wright remains dedicated to providing HIV/AIDS prevention services for gay men and transgender women of color in the Newark area. The African American Office of Gay Concerns also serves as a resource for the wellbeing of gay men of color, as well as gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning communities in the area.

For more than 20 years, Mr. Wright and his staff have created several projects, including The B.R.O.T.H.E.R. or Brothers Reaching Out Through Health Education and Risk Reduction Project, which is an innovative program dedicated to those at high risk for an HIV infection, the T.G.I.F. or Thank Goodness I'm Fabulous Peer Advocate Project, which provides young African-American and Latino transgender girls, especially sex workers, a safe place, and the Status is Everything Project, a multimedia educational campaign that aims to increase the number of people that get tested for HIV and other sexually-transmitted infections and diseases. Prior to founding the African American Office of Gay Concerns, Mr. Wright gained valuable expertise as a resources coordinator at AETC/UMDNJ between 1996 and 2000.

Eminently qualified in his field, Mr. Wright completed coursework at the University of North Texas and the Social Behavioral Epidemiologic Research Investigators CITI Program. In order to remain aware of changes in the industry, he aligns himself with the New Jersey Governor's HIV AIDS Advisory Committee at GAC, the county LGBTQ advisory board and as a fundraiser for the Tyler Clementi Foundation. In light of his professional expertise, he was recognized as one of the Top 10 Insighters on the New Jersey LGBT Power List in 2020. Looking toward the future, Mr. Wright intends to retire and possibly move to London with his husband.
