Having recently retired following a 40 year career in dentistry, Dr. Stuart found success as a general practice dentist and surgeon who maintained his own private practice in St. Louis between 1978 and 2018. He also held appointments at the Saint Louis Health and Hospital System, Christian Hospitals Northeast and Northwest holding the position as Associate in the Department of Surgery on call for 3 months a year with clinical admitting privilege, and the Michael School for the Handicapped. Widely published, Dr. Stuart often contributed articles to the Greater St. Louis and Missouri Dental Society journals in his area of expertise, which included the topic of direct reimbursement dental plans.
A native of St. Louis, Dr. Stuart developed a fascination for dentistry since coming of age. Excelling in both mathematics and science in school, Dr. Stuart ranked in the upper 5% of his high school class at Berkeley High located in Berkeley, MO. He achieved Life Scout status in Boy Scouts from Troop 606 Berkeley, MO. Growing up, he played various musical instruments, including the drums and the clarinet, received a Best Musician Award for Clarinet in the ninth grade and later became a professional drummer after 5 years of private lessons having a 5-member rock group called 'No Deposit No Return' who played many wedding receptions, church dances, and school picnics from 1967 to 1969. He played left guard lettering in Berkeley High School football in 1966-1967, his freshman and sophomore years. He then pursued a Bachelor of Science in chemistry at Saint Louis University, from which he graduated with cum laude honors in 1973. He subsequently completed a graduate fellowship in Organic Chemistry on campus from 1973 to 1974, after which he earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery, with magna cum laude honors, at the University of Missouri in Kansas City in 1978. He completed his hospital internship in 1978 as part of the PEG early graduation program at Truman Medical Center in Kansas City. Dr. Stuart holds certifications in Nobel-Biocare and Ankylos Implant Systems, as well as cardiopulmonary resuscitation. He notably passed the qualifying exams at the doctorate level for Organic and Inorganic Chemistry and at the Master's level in Analytical and Physical Chemistry in his first semester under Fellowship. He later that year wrote his highest exam scoring a 99th percentile on his dental admissions (DAT) exam. After 600 hours of CE and all day exam, Dr. Stuart earned a fellowship in general dentistry in 1999.
Dr. Stuart is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Association of Hospital Dentists and the American Chemical Society. Named Missouri Dentist of the Year for 2000 by the Missouri Dental Association, he was shortly thereafter honored with a Greater St. Louis Dental Society Achievement Award for 2002. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Stuart has been included in the 21st through 25th editions of Who's Who in the Midwest.
