ST. AUGUSTINE, FL, February 05, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Byron Chesser Campbell with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Campbell celebrates many years' experience in his newspaper publishing career. He has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Now retired from his career as a newspaper publishing executive, Mr. Campbell's distinguished career spanned more than three decades. His first opportunity arrived in 1959, working in sales for the Burlington Free Press in Vermont. Over the next two years, he began writing articles, taking photographs and learning all the facets of the industry. Mr. Campbell was subsequently employed by the Chicago Tribune in 1961, where he enjoyed a tenured career in various roles.

In 1977, Mr. Campbell transferred to the Tribune's Fort Lauderdale subsidiary, the Sun Sentinel Company, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as its president and chief executive officer. Growing the business significantly over the next six years from approximately 950 employees to over 1,300, circulation and home delivery services also spiked, and, as a result, the newspaper expanded into other markets. In 1983 he went on to serve as the president and publisher of the Tribune-owned Daily News of Los Angeles, and the president and chief executive officer of Tribune West Inc. in Los Angeles. In 1988, after 25 years at the Tribune, he relocated to New Jersey, where he would spend several more years as the president and publisher of The Record and the vice president of Macromedia Inc. until 1992. Throughout his career, one of Mr. Campbell's keys to success was hiring the right people for the right job. In return, he praised their work and compensated them well.

In addition to his full-time commitments, Mr. Campbell lent his expertise on the board of directors for several publishers, including the Home News Publishing Company in New Jersey, the Newspapers of New England in New Hampshire, the George W. Prescott Publishing Company in Massachusetts, and the Journal-Star Printing Company in Nebraska. He also served on the board of directors for the Santa Ana, California, based media conglomerate Freedom Communications Inc.

Apart from his professional endeavors, Mr. Campbell has greatly supported his community. He was on the board of directors and one of the founders of the Broward Workshop, the United Way of Bergen County and United Way of Broward County, United Way of Los Angeles, and the Lyric Opera of Chicago as well as on the board of the Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center. He was on the board of directors and the first vice president of the Fort Lauderdale Symphony. Mr. Campbell thoroughly enjoyed contributing whenever and wherever possible.

Mr. Campbell received a Bachelor of Arts in American studies at Yale University in 1955. He was subsequently accepted to Harvard University, where he acquired a Master of Business Administration in 1959. Mr. Campbell served for two years as a lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve between 1955 and 1957 on the carrier USS Randolph (CVA - 15).

To support his exemplary career, Mr. Campbell has been a member of several significant professional organizations.
