Mr. Berryhill is an environmental engineer and business leader who is serving as Associate Vice President and Technical Director of Enprotec/Hibbs & Todd, Inc. (eHT), and has been working for eHT since 2010. As Technical Director of the firm, Mr. Berryhill is responsible for overseeing and managing contracts for the planning, design, pilot testing, maintenance, upgrade and construction of public and private water treatment facilities and wastewater treatment facilities throughout Texas. His interest in engineering began in high school with a passion for building and programming PCs. Though he initially hoped to study computer engineering, few Texas universities offered it as a major, and he enrolled at Texas Tech University to study electrical engineering and computer science.
Uninspired after two semesters of electrical engineering and computer science coursework, Mr. Berryhill was invited to attend a tour of a local wastewater treatment facility. He was impressed by the complexity of the wastewater treatment facility, which relied on managing not only chemical and physical purification processes, but cultivating the health of an entire microbiome. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Berryhill changed his major to environmental engineering, and completed both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in just over three years. Mr. Berryhill has worked with more than 100 wastewater treatment facilities and over 70 water treatment facilities throughout the course of his career, and draws upon his detailed memories of each of them to enhance his design process and improve on existing solutions. With the unique challenges associated with water and wastewater supplies in Texas, Mr. Berryhill has developed unparalleled experience with the most advanced treatment technologies in the world, resulting in designing some of the most advanced treatment facilities not only in Texas, but throughout the world.
Through Mr. Berryhill's efforts, eHT has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades for Mr. Berryhill's design and process innovations, including a 2011 Leadership Award from the Texas Water Utility Association, the 2016 WateReuse Association Project of the Year Award, the 2016 Engineering News-Record Water/Environmental Award and the 2017 American Waterworks Award for his work on the Hamby Water Reclamation Facility. He recalls the Hamby Water Reclamation Facility project as his most significant project to date, with more than nine million gallons of "new water" produced each day, to provide a source of drought-immune water supply for the City of Abilene for years to come.
Mr. Berryhill credits much of his success to his continued love for his profession, his lifelong learning ethos and the inspiration of his parents, both career educators. In the coming years, Mr. Berryhill hopes to begin doctoral coursework and devote more time to teaching and mentoring new engineers. He is a member of the American Water Works Association, the Water Environment Federation, the American Membrane Technology Association, and the South Central Membrane Association and he is the Abilene Chapter President of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers.
